STRIKE: Our defense against the Deadly Dengue

Mosquito Liquid Repellent Starter Kit for only Php248.75

They say, "Prevention is better than cure." And I absolutely agree with that. ATC Healthcare International Corp. , has come up with a best line of defense, protection and prevention that would be very beneficial for all of us!

Despite continuous studies for the treatment of dengue, the mosquito-borne disease remains to be incurable. Since the epidemic outbreak that started in the Philippines and Thailand in the 1950s, 64 years later, the best discovery to address the deadly fever is still insufficient. While there is a vaccine that is formulated to prevent dengue, its efficacy is yet to be fully tested nor is it available to the public. We are left with no other choice but to rely on prevention.

However, just last year, a new type of dengue is discovered. This means that the new strain is more capable of enduring the body’s mechanism, making it stronger and harder to cure. With all these threats coming despite the progress in finally developing the treatment, still, it does not erase the people’s apprehension in having the disease.

While there is a vaccine that is formulated to prevent dengue, its efficacy is yet to be tested. We are left with no other choice but to fully protect ourselves from having this disease. After all, it’s a smart move and just like what they always say, prevention is always better than cure. One way to prevent dengue and other mosquito-related disease is through Strike Multi-Insect Killer.
Strike Insecticide Spray for only Php130.00- Php246.00 (SRP)

Strike is a fast-acting multi-insect killer that has a water-based formula which effectively kills mosquitoes and other insects. It has lower toxicity as compared to the leading brand, thus, it is safe for people, pets and plants. Strike is also environment-friendly unlike other oil-based insect killers and it contains no Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC). It leaves to stain on the surfaces of your home and does not release disturbing odors.

Aside from the multi-insect killer spray, Strike also comes in other variants like Strike Coil Mosquito Repellent, Strike Mat, Strike Liquid Mosquito Electric Repellent and Strike Patch.

For just an affordable price, reduce the risk of having dengue and other mosquito-related diseases with the help of Strike. Strike Multi-Insect Killer Spray is available at SRP P130.00 for 300ml can and SRP P246.00 for 600ml can. Strike is available at Mercury Drug and other leading drugstores nationwide.

AjiPanda: Your Best Friend in the Kitchen

Kathryn Bernardo for Aji-no-moto

AjiPanda is a cute panda icon that conveys someone shy, caring, happy and loyal. It personifies how a humble pack or bottle of AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning fills the role of Your Best Friend in the Kitchen by offering an ever-reliable way of bringing out the natural goodness of food.

Ajinomotos new campaign, which also features teen queen Kathryn Bernardo, presents the benefits of its dependable brand of seasoning to a new generation of cooks and food lovers.

AJI-NO-MOTO® comes from sugar cane, corn or cassava and is manufactured through the natural process of fermentation. This product is safe, convenient and effective in making food taste delicious.

This is because it is simply free glutamate, the most common among amino acids (the building blocks of protein). It provides the taste of umami to food in the same way that sugar adds sweet taste or salt adds salty taste to food.

But what is umami? Umami, is the fifth basic taste alongside sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. It is the savory, rich and full taste we often experience in meat, seafood, cheese, tomatoes and mushrooms.

Consider the delightful composition of chicken, green papaya and malunggay in tinola or the medley of cheese, ham, pepperoni, tomatoes, green and red bell peppers on top of a pizza. The combinations and layers of these glutamate-rich ingredients make dishes very delicious and enjoyable.

Remember that AjiPanda, your best friend in the kitchen, will help work wonders in your cooking so that you can share many happy meals with your family. Visit http://www.ajinomoto.com.ph/AjiPanda for healthy and delicious recipes.

Michael Pangilinan: Promising and Inspiring

Michael Pangilinan as Crisostomo Ibarra in "Kanser @35" The Musical (pct: curtaincallmanila.com)

As fresh as his face, Michael Pangilinan at 19, has actually experienced a lot as compared to what others have in his age group. I've only first known and noticed Michael during the "Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs 2014." He was one of the 15 finalists there, who interpreted the song, 'Pare, Mahal Mo raw Ako," by Joven Tan, from the mere title of the song itself, it had drawn huge attention to the majority and thus, putting Michael himself in hot seat.

I guess, because of that occurrence,  it has contributed to Michael's career growth. I just wanted to commend him for his performances at the "Your Face Sounds Familiar" Season 2 . His recent performance as Brandon Beal of the popular song, 'Twerk it like Miley," was exceptional. his voice and his moves were very swift, he doesn't have to overact. For me, he really has what it takes to be a star.

Michael Pangilinan as Brandon Beal in "Your Face Sounds Familiar" Season 2 (pct: Michael Pangilinan @khelpangilinan on Instagram)

Few days ago, I was so fortunate to watch "Kanser @35" the Musical at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. When I got the invite to watch Michael Pangilinan in a musical play, I got real curious and excited. you see, it's gonna be my first time to watch him perform live in a musical play, and in a leading role, mind you.

The whole cast of "Kanser @35" The Musical (pct: curtaincallmanila.com)

Just wanted to share with you, my dear amazing readers, that "Kanser" is considered to be the longest running play in the Philippine theater history. having based and derived its story from our National hero, Dr. Jose Rizal from his novel, "Noli Me Tangere," the musical play was written by Jomar Fieras, music by Jed Balsamo, choreographed by Paul Alexander and was directed by Franniel Zamora.

So glad to know that, on its 35th year, 'Kanser" was presented as a full length musical theater production that started last August 28, 2015. Michael admitted that, he's still a newbie when it comes to theater acting, he said, "Malaki pong adjustment ang ginawa ko, sinabi ko sa sarili ko, kapag di ko binigay 'yung puso't sarili ko sa ginagawa ko, hindi ko magagawa nang maayos."

Michael Pangilinan right after "Kanser @35" The Musical

Michael even added that, 'In every performance ko, kahit saan, lagi ko sinasabi, Lord, kayo mag-perform, kayo magsalita, kayo mag-spiel, kayo lahat. " Such a very positive and inspiring attitude!

The very promising singer/ actor also admitted that, he really find it hard preparing for his role as Crisostomo Ibarra, he did research, and asked different resource persons most especially from his co-theater actors.  He also shared that, joining theater has been a great help for him with his performances in "Your Face Sounds Familiar."

In addition, Michael also sang the theme song of  "Everyday, I love You," an upcoming Star Cinema movie starring Gerald Anderson, Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil. He's singing a cover of 'It might be you."

Michael Pangilinan with co-actors during the curtain call of "Kanser @35" The Musical

Congratulations Michael! And to the whole team of "Kanser @35,"
After watch the musical play, I can definitely claim that, Michael is indeed a very promising and inspiring persona! More power to you!!!

Celebrating Quezon City's Diamond Jubilee Anniversary

I live not so near Quezon City, in fact, I was born and raised in Manila. I've nothing much to share about my experiences in Quezon City not until my last year in college up to the present time. You know, I have spent some moments of my proper years (graduating year) as Physical Therapy intern in Quezon City.

I was able to be one of the interns at East Avenue Medical Hospital and at Medical Arts Building in Quezon Avenue. Those were just past memories of my travel and stay in Quezon City. The best thing that I would like to share you, is that, I was able to explore and appreciate Quezon City more, for the past six years, since our office A4 Telemedia Marketing, Inc. found a new place in San Francisco Del Monte and that most of my events happen at this huge and progressive city.

In line with the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee Anniversary of Quezon City, we had the privilege to tour of the Quezon Heritage House. It was quite astonishing having seen and learned more about our Philippine history, particularly our former Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon and his family.

Quezon Heritage House

And as part of the whole program too, we had a #ProjectHeadshot conducted by the one and the only Niccolo Cosme

Thanks Niccolo and Happy 75th Jubilee Anniversary Quezon City!!!

A parade of 500 fully costumed festival dancers from the biggest and grandest fiesta celebrations will be gathered to perform at the said street. It is a chance to experience the country's best festivities without going that far.

At the same date, from 7pm to 11pm, there will be a Grand Parade of Lights. You will see Quezon City comes to life in a way that has never been before. The Grand Parade of Lights is a unique parade of extensively and colorful LED-illuminated floats. As part of its continued commitment to help fight hunger among Filipino children, Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, together with the United Nations-World Food Programme (UN-WFP), recently visited conflict-affected communities in Lanao to observe the WFP’s ongoing feeding programme for schoolchildren.

The school-based feeding programme, which benefits thousands of children in conflict-affected Central Mindanao, is part of the annual World Hunger Relief Programme (WHRP), a campaign touted as the world’s largest private sector hunger relief effort to raise awareness, volunteerism and funds to benefit WFP.  Established in 2007, the WHR is primarily focused on engaging Yum! Brands’ associates, franchisees and consumers in over 41,000 restaurants around the globe to end world hunger by contributing money to help feed beneficiaries of the WFP.

“We’ve been a supporter of the World Food Programme since 2008, and we continue to support it by raising awareness about food and nutrition security among our customers and employees,” shared Teck Huack “TH” Lim, Chief Operating Officer of Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.  “In the Philippines, we have over 5,000 employees and by engaging them to be part of WHRP, we can make a huge contribution in alleviating hunger especially among children, while encouraging our employees to grow into socially responsible members of their community,” he added.

“We would like to thank Yum! Brands Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Philippines for their unrelenting support throughout the years,” said Martin Bettelley, Deputy Country Director of WFP Philippines.  “Through their initiative, we get to provide nutritious meals to schoolchildren in Central Mindanao who need them the most.  In time, we can all achieve our goal to end world hunger.”

TH Lim and Martin Bettelley led in the recent distribution of nutritious meals and loot bags were recently distributed to 900 children from Denaig Elementary School in Poona Piagao, Lanao Del Norte, and Pindulonan Elementary School in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur.  Joining them were representatives from the Department of Education and local government units.

The World Hunger Relief 2015 campaign to raise funds for school meals in conflict-affected Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao will start in November across all Pizza Hut and Taco Bell outlets in the Philippines. This year, Philippine Pizza Inc aims to sell tokens in exchange for donations, which cover coin banks and loose change.

Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Philippines began their World Hunger Relief campaign in 2008, and have since raised over PhP25 million to help feed Filipino schoolchildren through WFP. This campaign is one of the largest private sector hunger relief initiatives spanning more than 125 countries and territories.

WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.  Each year, it assists more than 80 million people in around 80 countries.

Be scar less and flawless with Vine’s CO2 laser

Scarring is part of the body’s healing process but scars need not stay on your skin forever. The same goes with skin hyper-pigmentation. But through innovative solutions discovered by dermatologists, many patients are now faced with several alternatives on how to improve their skin condition.

One of the latest methods out there is the fractional carbon dioxide laser treatment. According to Dr. Emehly Sevilla of Vine Holistic Medical Aesthetics, both young and old may undergo the treatment.  In fact, her youngest patient was seven years old. Indications of the CO2 laser treatment include deep scars, big pores, stretch marks, fine lines, and skin conditions like syringomas, milias, warts, keloids, melasma, freckles, and hyperpigmentation in the face, underarm, under butt, knees, elbows, fingers and toes. It can also treat dark lines and ‘chicken skin’ on underarms.

Aside from erasing marks and blemishes, it is also a good anti-aging tool and can be done along with other treatments. Vine’s extensive and simple programs work in synergy for optimum effect. Dr. Sevilla said she erases wrinkles with fractional carbon dioxide laser and proceeds with the Botox procedure.

“If the patients do not have skin problems but want to tighten their pores, wants to have skin rejuvenation and remove fine lines, fractional carbon dioxide laser can do that. It’s a good maintenance as well. Even some 25-year olds already have mini-lines on their forehead because of the lifestyle today, so this treatment is the answer,” said Dr. Sevilla.

In the past, doctors only based their evaluation on the visual and history of the patient (background of what really happened) to know how deep the problem is. With the new fractional carbon dioxide laser machine, its skin analyzer can accurately assess the skin problem and recommend the ideal operation. It can tell if the skin is moist or dry and will set itself to the safest setting that the patient needs.

However, Dr. Sevilla said that the new machine can also be set manually if the doctor wishes to.
"If you overset the treatment for a certain problem because you’re only visually only looking at it, it may cause inflammatory hyperpigmentation that will leave dark marks,” noted Sevilla.
The advantage of fractional carbon dioxide laser treatment is that it is measurable, precise and safe. “The problem with peels is that you cannot control its absorption. There are patients where you put this percentage and they would absorb and peel so much, but if you apply the same percent
age to other patients who have thicker skin, they won’t peel that much,” explained Dr. Sevilla.

Furthermore, she said that with needling procedures, doctors can only base on the visuals and history taking so it may not be precise. For safety, the doctor, nurse and patient wear goggles during the whole procedure which usually lasts for 15 to 20 minutes. If the area to be treated is near the eyes, they use micropore tape so that the eyes remain closed.

“Laser is okay with treating eye bag area but for safety reasons, we don’t recommend treating on the upper eyelid (on top of eyeballs) even if the depth can be controlled,” remarked Dr. Sevilla.
Before the procedure, anesthesia cream is applied on the skin. It takes 30 minutes to numb the face and one hour for extremities. A slight discomfort may be felt on the first session. But none of that will happen in the succeeding sessions, said Dr. Sevilla. She explained that the tip of the machine emits air and distracts the patient from any possible pain.

The procedure will leave the patient with pinkish skin. To go back to their daily activities, patients need to undergo cryoporation before leaving the center to close the pores, relax the skin and infuse more serum. Post laser cream is given to enhance cell repair.

After getting the laser treatment, avoid eating chicken, seafood and eggs. Do not wash the face or put on makeup for at least 12 hours after the treatment but sunblock lotion can be used as long as the skin has already absorbed the serum. Patients can come back for another session as early as two weeks but normal protocol is a month.

However, not everyone can just go and get the procedure. Contraindications include chronic skin diseases like psoriasis, allergies, fungal infection, eczema, rashes, measles and chicken pox. “Treat the skin problem first before doing the laser. But if the area to be treated is far away from area with disease, laser can be done,” related Dr. Sevilla.
