Local skincare brand outperforms beauty industry giants, winning Emerald Award for sales achievement through video-led e-commerce

July 14, 2025, Manila, Philippines — Trending Filipino skincare brand Dermorepubliq has earned the Emerald Award at this year’s TikTok Shop Philippines Beauty and Personal Care Annual Awards for being the platform’s top-selling beauty brand, in recognition of its outstanding sales achievement and performance through short video content.

The award highlights Dermorepubliq’s success in building a strong community and driving authentic engagement through relatable creator-led videos and grassroots partnerships. The recognition places Dermorepubliq ahead of bigger beauty brands on the platform, underscoring the impact of video-led e-commerce and community trust in today’s social commerce space.

“This award is a milestone for our team and everyone who believes in our brand,”said Keith Sta. Barbara, Founder and President of Dermorepubliq. “Being named TikTok Shop’s overall Top 1 beauty brand shows what’s possible when customers and creators share real stories and results. Dermorepubliq’s growth on TikTok Shop is driven by a full-funnel strategy that combines brand awareness efforts with conversion-focused content to deliver stronger results. By building trust and collaboration with its creators and customers, the brand has grown a more connected and engaged community that supports its grassroots approach. This community-first approach helps generate authentic content, amplify its message, and sustain long-term growth, which continues to set Dermorepubliq apart in the competitive local beauty market.

Running from June 16 to 29, the campaign gained strong traction on TikTok, generating over 1,000 entries and leveraging the brand’s creator network to drive authentic and educational content.

Following receipt of the award, Dermorepubliq plans to share the milestone across its social channels and integrate it into its affiliate program to acknowledge partners who contributed to its growth.

Nag-iisang Kara…Tatlong Dekada Kara David celebrates 30 years as a Kapuso, Renews Ties with GMA

July 16, 2025

Kara Patria Constantino David, whose name
means "Beloved Homeland," has devoted the past three decades of her career to unearthing and telling powerful stories across the Philippines.

On July 8, 2025, in celebration of her 30th year in the industry, Kara renewed her ties with GMA Network. The ceremonial contract signing gathered network executives, colleagues, and individuals whose lives Kara has touched through her work.

In attendance were GMA President and CEO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., GMA Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, and Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Executive Vice President for GMA Pictures Nessa Valdellon.

In his video message, GMA Network Chairman Atty. Felipe L. Gozon congratulated Kara on her 30 years of being a loyal Kapuso.

“Ang mga istoryang inihahatid mo, lalo na sa iyong mga dokumentaryo, ay tumatatak sa puso at isip ng mga Pilipino. Masaya kami na patuloy kang magiging bahagi ng GMA Network at GMA Public Affairs. Ang ibig sabihin nito ay marami ka pang award-winning na kuwentong maihahatid at magmumulat sa kamalayan at makapagpapabuti ng buhay ng ating mga manonood. Maraming salamat sa iyong malasakit at dedikasyon,” said Atty. Gozon.

Mr. Duavit likewise lauded Kara’s contribution to GMA Network.

“The contribution of Kara cannot be measured. Kara has worked before, in front of, behind the camera. Lahat ng kontribusyon niya sa mga programa, sa mga isip at diwa ng ating manonood at ating mga Kapuso, hindi natin masusukat. We are privileged, honored, happy, na si Kara ay isang Kapuso at mananatili pang Kapuso,” said Duavit.

“Kara, thank you very much for your continued trust and support and for being Kara David. You are a credit to all of us. Ginagalang at minamahal ka naming lahat,” he added.

Mr. Yalong also thanked Kara’s dedication to her craft.

“Kara, salamat that you continue to be with us. And I hope that you will come up with more documentaries that are very meaningful and very timely for the situation that we have right now. Again, salamat sa iyo,” he said.

Meanwhile, Valdellon underscored Kara’s work beyond television. “On behalf of Public Affairs, thank you for your 30 years of purpose-driven storytelling. Thank you for sending so many of our I-Witness case studies to school – making sure they were able to graduate from college from the time you met them in elementary. Thank you for staying relevant and relatable. Thank you for touching countless lives and thank you for loving GMA for three decades,” said Valdellon.

Overflowing with gratitude, Kara shared how she looks forward to continuing her meaningful journey as a loyal Kapuso.

“Thank you, GMA, for giving me a chance. I will be forever grateful to you for taking a chance on me when nobody else wanted to. Thank you for giving me this platform. Thank you for allowing me to tell stories and for allowing me to use these stories to help more people in the Philippines. ‘Yun naman ‘’yung tatak ng Serbisyong Totoo–ginagawa natin ang istoryang ito hindi para sa sarili pero para sa mas marami. At iyon ang itinuro sa akin ng GMA,” said David.

Also celebrating Kara’s milestone were Public Affairs’ Vice President Arlene Carnay, Assistant Vice Presidents Jonathan Tam and Joy Madrigal, Senior Program Managers Sherilyn Bruan and Joseph Conrad Rubio, and Program Manager Maharlika Corullo. Present as well was Assistant Vice President for Corporate Communications Jojo Aquio.

Beyond 30 Years of Impactful Storytelling

Kara's television career began with on-the-job training on "Super Show" before officially joining GMA in 1995 as a production assistant. She quickly transitioned into writing roles for "Brigada Siete" and "Emergency," and later became a reporter for "Brigada Siete" and "I-Witness." Her extensive career includes anchoring "News to Go" and hosting "Power House," "Brigada," "Case Unclosed," "OFW Diaries," and "Pinas Sarap" - which has been GTV’s number 1 program for two consecutive years. She remains one of the pioneering hosts of "I-Witness," which celebrated its 25th year in 2024.

She has produced hundreds of award-winning documentaries, earning numerous accolades such as the UNICEF Child Rights Award for “Selda Inosente,” a George Foster Peabody Award for “Ambulansyang de Paa,” and Investigative Journalist of the Year for "Bitay." She was also recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in 2007 and one of the Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation's Service (TOWNS) in 2011.

Outside of television, Kara founded "Project Malasakit," a scholarship initiative that began through the cases featured in her documentaries – turning stories into lasting impact.

During the contract renewal, GMA Public Affairs honored Kara with a surprise tribute: a live storybook presentation chronicling her journey and the many lives she has touched on and off camera.

The signing event also marked the official launch of Kara’s newest project – GMA Public Affairs’ latest podcast, “I-Listen.” Featuring heartfelt conversations that truly resonate with listeners, each episode tells the unique stories of Filipinos, showcasing raw, relatable experiences that will touch your heart and spark meaningful reflection. It will soon be available on GMA Public Affairs' social media platforms, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

From Manila to Seoul: BlueWater Day Spa Marks 20 Years with Global Glow and Local Soul

July 15, 2023

A new era of wellness begins as BlueWater Day Spa unveils its newest brand ambassadors. From left: Korean actor and ambassador Choi Bo Min and Filipino actor-singer Teejay Marquez pose for the official campaign reveal.

For 20 years, BlueWater Day Spa has been that go-to space — the quiet sanctuary in the middle of everyday rush. Known for its curated massage experiences and signature treatments, the spa has helped countless Filipinos recharge, reset, and find their glow again.

Laughter and energy filled the room as BlueWater Day Spa’s brand ambassadors engaged with the crowd during their official introduction. From left: Host Queen Semana shares a fun exchange with Korean actor Choi Bo Min and Filipino actor-singer Teejay Marquez at the 20th Anniversary Media Launch held at The Westin Manila.

Last July 10, BlueWater Day Spa celebrated this milestone and ushered in a new chapter. The event marked the official introduction of two new brand ambassadors: Teejay Marquez, a multi-talented Filipino actor and singer known across Southeast Asia, and Choi Bo Min, a rising Korean actor-idol and current lead in Beauty Empire on GMA and VIU.

Their presence reflects what BlueWater Day Spa has become — timeless in values, yet fully in touch with the now.

Ambassadors Who Pamper with Purpose

When Teejay Marquez spoke on stage, it wasn’t just to charm the room. It was to share something personal: his approach to rest and recovery in a demanding career.

BlueWater Day Spa ambassador Teejay Marquez shares his favorite massage treatments during the media launch held at The Westin Manila.

“The Balinese Massage helps me recover after long days on set,” Teejay explained. “I also love the Thai Yoga Massage — it stretches me out and rebalances everything. It really helps me sleep better.”

It’s the kind of insight that resonates with anyone who’s tried to keep up with a packed calendar. For Teejay, making time to slow down isn’t just helpful — it’s essential.

Then came Choi Bo Min, who won hearts not only with his calm charisma, but with his surprising fluency in relaxing.

Korean actor and GMA’s Beauty Empire lead Choi Bo Min brings charm and calm to the BlueWater Day Spa anniversary event.

“The Traditional Filipino Massage was new to me — but so good, I fell asleep halfway through,” he said with a smile (“That’s how good it was.”). “I’d also like to try the Korean HIFU treatment — it’s popular in Korea and helps define the face. That’s something I’m curious about.”

Bo Min’s choices reflect what BlueWater Day Spa has cultivated over time: a mix of authentic local treatments and globally inspired offerings, making it relevant for both Filipino loyalists and international stars alike.

A Legacy of Consistency and Care

The brand’s leadership joins its ambassadors in marking a milestone moment. From left: BlueWater Day Spa Operations Manager Nancy Go, Choi Bo Min, Teejay Marquez, and President & CEO Mary Simisim during the 20th anniversary celebration at The Westin Manila.

Since its founding, BlueWater Day Spa has been known for delivering treatments with consistency, warmth, and professionalism. While many trends in wellness have come and gone, the brand has remained rooted in the belief that taking time to rest is a meaningful choice — not a luxury.

What sets the spa apart is its blend of technique and experience. From Traditional Filipino hilot, to Thai and Balinese massage styles, to modern non-invasive facials like HIFU, each treatment is backed by international training, ensuring high-quality results across locations.

“Bringing in an international ambassador like Bo Min isn’t just a PR move,” shared one insider. “It reflects the truth — that BlueWater Day Spa offers treatments and service standards that meet global expectations.”

As part of the celebration, the spa also announced an Afternoon Promo — with up to 20% off on selected services, available until September 17, 2025, at branches in Greenhills, Banawe-Quezon City, and Estancia Mall-Pasig.

20 Years In, and Still Glowing

Whether you're a regular at their spa theater or someone just discovering the joy of a full-body massage, BlueWater Day Spa has built its legacy around one simple idea: everyone deserves time to pause.

With ambassadors like Teejay and Bo Min leading the way, the brand enters its third decade with a renewed message — calm is power, and caring for yourself is timeless.
BlueWater Day Spa has branches in Banawe – Quezon City, Eton Square – Ortigas in Greenhills, San Juan, and Estancia Mall in Pasig City.

Breathe Better, Live Lighter: LG’s Tips for a Cozier Home

July 10, 2025

From light decluttering to fresh air habits, LG shares small changes that can help reduce allergens and create a more relaxed space

National Allergy Day is a timely reminder of how important it is to keep our indoor spaces fresh and free from allergens. With many Filipinos spending more time at home, managing indoor air quality has never been more essential. From pollen, dust mites, and pet dander to indoor pollutants, the air we breathe can significantly affect our health, especially for those with asthma or allergies.

The good news is, it doesn’t take a full home makeover. Simple habits, like opening windows, decluttering, or using smart home tech like LG Vacuums and Air Purifiers can go a long way in helping your home feel fresher and more comfortable. Here are helpful tips to keep your air cleaner and your environment more comfortable.

Stay Consistent with Cleaning Routines

Cleaning frequently helps prevent dust buildup and keeps allergens from settling in. Whether you're a busy mom taking care of the family or living solo and handling every part of the home, the LG CordZero™ Powerful Cordless Handstick Vacuum is a big help. Its wireless design makes spot-cleaning easy, while its powerful suction and five-step filtration system help minimize dust and dirt, so your home stays fresher with less effort. Designed to be height adjustable and ergonomically balanced, it offers added comfort and flexibility, making every cleaning session easier on your body.

Let the Fresh Air In

Natural ventilation is a simple way to help reduce indoor pollutants. Try opening your windows early in the morning before starting your day or in the evening after work when the outdoor air is generally cooler and cleaner. If you live in a busy urban area, using mesh screens or air curtains can help let the breeze in while keeping dust and allergens out. It’s a refreshing way to reset your space and your mood.

Dust Smarter, Not Harder

Carpets, upholstery, and hard-to-reach areas can trap dust that may trigger allergies, so regular cleaning is essential, especially for families with young kids or allergy-prone members. A vacuum that captures fine particles and keeps them from circulating back into the air can make a real difference. The LG Automatic Dust Kompressor™ Canister Vacuum in Iron Grey works to trap most dust particles that can linger in the air and on surfaces. Its motorized plate compresses the collected dirt, so you can fit up to four times more in the bin, making cleaning less frequent and giving your whole family more reason to breathe easily.

Clear the Clutter, Clear the Air

The more items you have lying around, the more places dust and allergens can settle. Keeping your space tidy with closed storage or simple shelves makes it easier to clean and helps reduce irritants. A little decluttering goes a long way in making your home feel fresher and easier to breathe in.

Purify the Air, Especially in Closed Rooms

For enclosed spaces like your child’s bedroom, keeping the air fresh and clean is a simple way to help them sleep and breathe better. The LG 32m² PuriCare™ AeroHit Air Purifier is designed for compact areas and purifies the air 360° around you, in every direction, no matter where you place it, giving consistent, all-around air purification. It features a multi-filtration system that helps capture fine dust, odors, and other airborne particles. The system includes a pre-filter, HEPA filter, and carbon filter that work together to remove large dust particles, pollen, bacteria, viruses, and allergens. With its quiet operation, sleek design, and smart air control, LG PuriCare™ is a thoughtful choice for creating a safer, more comfortable space where your little one can rest.

While no single solution can completely eliminate allergens, small everyday steps can make a big impact on your family’s comfort and well-being. This National Allergy Day, breathe easier by creating a home that supports healthier air naturally and mindfully.

Life’s Good when your home makes you feel your best every day. Whether it's through cleaner air, easier routines, or smart tools that make everyday living feel lighter, LG is committed to helping Filipino families create healthier spaces where they can feel more at ease. CDA Empowers Cooperatives Through SM Supermalls’ Weekend Market

 July 5, 2025

L-R: Royston A. Cabunag, Assistant Vice President and Lead for MSME and Job Fairs, Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Mall Operations of SM Supermalls formalized partnership through a MOA signing with CDA Chairperson Usec. Alexander B. Raquepo and CDA Administrator Asec. Santiago S. Lim, that aims to empower Filipino cooperatives through the SM Weekend Market initiative.

Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and SM Supermalls have officially sealed a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held on Monday, July 1, 2025, at the SM Supermalls Headquarters in Pasay City. The agreement marks the beginning of a joint effort to empower Filipino cooperatives by giving them access to high-foot-traffic mall spaces through the SM Weekend Market — a platform dedicated to showcasing local products, homegrown talent, and Filipino entrepreneurship.

Fresh, proudly Filipino produce takes the spotlight supporting local farmers and cooperatives at the SM Weekend Market at SM City Calamba.

The MOA was signed by Undersecretary Alexander B. Raquepo, CDA Chairperson, and Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Mall Operations of SM Supermalls, in the presence of key officials from both institutions. “This is a historic partnership between the private and public sectors,” said Usec. Raquepo during his remarks. “We take great pride in this collaboration with SM Supermalls, which represents a powerful step forward in uplifting our micro, small and medium cooperative entrepreneurs. This model partnership will not only provide access to markets, but help elevate the economic well-being of our communities.”

Shoppers enjoy direct access to farm-fresh produce at the SM Weekend Market where farmers are given dedicated selling spaces in select SM Supermalls.

Local farmers showcase and sell their fresh harvest to shoppers at the SM Weekend Market, a platform by SM Supermalls that connects producers directly to consumers in high-traffic mall locations.

Under the agreement, CDA will endorse eligible cooperatives across the country to participate in the SM Weekend Market. In turn, SM Supermalls will make space available in key mall locations for a minimal fee—intended only to help cover maintenance costs. “The SM Weekend Market was born out of a simple but powerful idea — to give farmers and local producers, especially those in cooperatives, the chance to bring their goods closer to the people, in places they wouldn’t normally have access to,” said Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Mall Operations at SM Supermalls. “With CDA as our partner, we are excited to open more doors and more mall spaces to co-ops across the country. This partnership will allow more communities to thrive, more stories to be told, and more Filipino-made products to be celebrated.”

Lively displays of locally grown vegetables welcome shoppers at the SM Weekend Market at SM City Southmall.

The event marks the start of a nationwide collaboration between CDA and SM Supermalls, with more updates and market rollouts expected in the coming months.

About the SM Weekend Market

The SM Weekend Market is a community-driven initiative by SM Supermalls that gives farmers and cooperatives direct access to high-foot traffic locations, helping them sell fresh, abundant harvests quickly and sustainably. By providing accessible weekend selling spaces in designated SM mall areas, the Weekend Market connects local producers with urban shoppers — creating a win-win for both communities and consumers.

More than just a marketplace, the SM Weekend Market is a purposeful movement — empowering grassroots enterprises, boosting local food systems, and fostering deeper community connections through commerce, culture, and collaboration.

SM Supermalls elevates urban air quality

July 5, 2025

There’s nothing quite like strolling through a mall with breathtaking views, expansive arcades, and lush greenery. At SM Supermalls, shopping isn’t just about transactions—it’s about enjoying spaces designed for comfort, sustainability, and a healthier environment. More than ever, SM’s commitment to green infrastructure is shaping urban air quality while creating a more livable city for everyone.

Designing for people and the planet

SM Supermalls prioritizes people-centric design, creating welcoming spaces that balance nature with modern convenience. The SM Mall of Asia’s arcades and the MOA Sky, for example, offer open, breezy walkways, encouraging leisurely strolls and even outdoor dining and entertainment. Meanwhile, SM Aura and SM North EDSA’s Sky Garden—the first in an SM mall—integrates lush vegetation and water features to reduce indoor heat, improve air quality, and create cooling effects in dense urban areas.

SM North EDSA houses the first Sky Garden in an SM mall, highlighting endemic plants and water features that bring nature onto a rooftop.

The SM MOA Sky showcases greenery and open-air spaces that promote cleaner, cooler urban living.

Championing bike-friendly cities

Beyond providing open spaces, SM Supermalls is leading bike-friendly initiatives, with over 5,000 bike parking spaces across its properties. Studies show that replacing short car trips with biking can cut carbon emissions by up to 90%, significantly reducing air pollution and its long-term impact on climate change.

Cyclists gather at SM Seaside City Cebu, championing greener, healthier urban mobility.

Bikers enjoy the convenience of secure parking as SM Supermalls champions eco-friendly transport solutions.

Greening malls with native flora

Additionally, select SM malls feature endemic plant species that enhance air quality and support local biodiversity, filtering pollutants while creating a natural habitat for urban wildlife. These green spaces are designed not just for aesthetics but to actively contribute to a healthier environment.

Making public transport more convenient

To make sustainable transport more accessible, SM Supermalls operates transport terminals that support public transportation, providing seamless connections to buses, jeepneys, and other modes of transit. These terminals encourage commuters to opt for public transport, which can significantly reduce individual carbon footprints and traffic congestion, contributing to cleaner air and more efficient urban mobility.

Powering the shift to EVs

Recognizing the need for cleaner transportation, SM Supermalls has also installed Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) in 69 malls nationwide. By providing essential infrastructure for electric vehicles, SM is helping to lower carbon emissions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels—a crucial step in improving urban air quality. Studies indicate that EVs produce up to 60% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional gas-powered vehicles, making them a key solution for reducing pollution in crowded city centers.

Monitoring air, empowering communities

SM’s commitment to sustainability extends to air quality monitoring, ensuring that urban pollution levels are tracked and addressed. Under SM Prime Holdings, the company partnered with Quezon City to establish an air quality monitoring system that records environmental data and provides updates through a publicly accessible website. This initiative allows communities to stay informed while encouraging long-term strategies for a cleaner, healthier urban space.

J
SM Supermalls monitors air quality in real time, empowering communities with data for cleaner, healthier cities.

A greener future for urban living

From green roofs and bike-friendly amenities to EVCS and air quality monitoring, SM Supermalls is redefining retail spaces with a deeper environmental purpose. Every visit to an SM mall contributes to a better urban future, where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.

40 years of building better communities

Celebrating 40 years of serving communities, SM Supermalls continues to lead as a shopping and lifestyle destination in the Philippines. True to its legacy, SM remains at the forefront of environmental sustainability through pioneering waste, water and energy innovations as well as disaster resilience initiatives.

Community at Work: SM Cares Joins Brigada Eskwela 2025

July 5, 2025

In support of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) annual Brigada Eskwela initiative, SM Supermalls mobilized thousands of volunteers across its malls nationwide from June 9 to 13, 2025, to help prepare public schools for the upcoming academic year. This year’s Brigada Eskwela carried the theme, “Nagkakaisa para sa Handa at Ligtas na Pagbabalik Eskwela.”

Driven by the spirit of bayanihan, SM employee volunteers join Brigada Eskwela to help public schools prepare for the new academic year—fostering cleaner, safer, and more welcoming spaces where students and communities can thrive.

SM North EDSA volunteers sweep hallways for Brigada Eskwela—helping create clean, focused spaces where students can learn and grow.

.As a long-time DepEd partner, SM Supermalls once again participated in Brigada Eskwela 2025 as part of its broader commitment to youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, and inclusive community building.

The initiative was rolled out across 75 SM Supermalls, with more than a thousand employee-volunteers working hand-in-hand with DepEd, local government units (LGUs), school representatives, and community members.
