Jollibee Group to acquire majority stake in Milksha 

On November 4, Jollibee Group disclosed that it will purchase, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Jollibee Worldwide, Pte. Ltd. (JWPL), a majority stake in the firm that owns Milksha. 
 
Jollibee Group will purchase shares equivalent to 51% ownership in Milkshop International Co. Ltd. (Milkshop) for approximately USD12.8 million. One of the co-founders of Milkshop will continue to retain the 49% ownership of Milkshop.

Monsour Del Rosario and the Comment Section

Some comments on social media can ruin your day, but Monsour Del Rosario tries not to let this get to him. Ever since he announced his candidacy for a Senate seat, the majority of people familiar with his Congress record are ecstatic, but some netizens can’t help but poke holes.

‘Anong gagawin mo sa Senate? Maninipa? (‘What are you going to do in the Senate? Kick people?’) This is how the usual troll comment goes. But it’s a legitimate question that Monsour tries to answer with his usual flair. In a virtual conversation at RVOTE (Rotary District 3820 Advocacy For Voter Education) held November 12, the man tries to answer the question by weaving a short story of his life.  

“Well, I can’t deny that being in the movies made me popular, but first and foremost, I’m a Negrense who became a Taekwondo fighter and was asked by my Master to make Taekwondo famous, so I went on to become an action star who can barely speak Tagalog. But that’s also just the beginning for me. People elected me to public office for years. I was a two-term councilor, I was a lawmaker in the 17th Congress where I wrote, pushed, and defended 292 Bills and Resolutions. Not bad for ‘just an actor’,” Del Rosario says.




His life story is not rosy but very familiar for a promdi. Bullied at a young age and his parents divorced, he got into a lot of trouble during his youth in Negros. He eventually moved to Manila to live with his grandmother, who he remembers fondly for instilling discipline in him. Combined with Taekwondo lessons, he was able to receive strict guidance to contain his restless energy and channel it to something positive.




Still looking fit at 58 years old, Monsour Del Rosario will face another challenge as he aims for a Senate seat in the upcoming 2022 elections. What is his motivation to run? “I was perfectly happy living my private life after my stint in Congress, but after the 292 bills and resolutions I filed during my term, only a few of them eventually became laws of the land. I felt like I had a lot of unfinished business. The pandemic also stirred me to help solve our current problems in healthcare, employment, and the economy. I believe the senate needs fresh eyes – a new perspective.”

Unbeknownst to many, Del Rosario is the father of the Telecommuting Act of 2018 or the Work from Home Law, which is now the legal basis used by companies to allow their employees to work from home during the pandemic. “I pushed that law 7 months into my Congress days. Back then, we only wanted to solve the problem of traffic in the Metro. Little did we know that 3 years later, a global pandemic would put people off the streets and into their homes. But that bill was just there waiting to be utilized. I’m happy and sad at the same time because it became very useful, but we didn’t want a pandemic to make it so.”

Asked what he will do to ease the effects of the pandemic, he maps out his plans: “My suggestion is to put a commission to explore new industries and fields that are suited to the skills of Filipinos. We want to create a jobs market that will employ millions of Filipinos who do what they do best. But I think the most pressing matter, which the pandemic highlighted for us, is the need to improve our healthcare system – primarily the way we treat our frontliners or healthcare heroes. We have a pandemic raging in the country and our nurses are running away to go abroad. The simple reason for that is because we’re not giving them the salaries and benefits that they deserve. We need to close the gap of salaries they may receive abroad and entice them to stay here with their families, so we have to work on that with urgency,” he says.

Del Rosario notes his proposal to have a Healthcare Heroes Card that will provide incentives to qualified workers in the healthcare sector. “This card will be given to licensed medical practitioners and they can present this to establishments and services where they will be given discounts – the same privileges given to our PWDs and Senior Citizens. That’s the first thing I will do if I ever make it in the Senate.”

The TECNO Way of Winning AI Camera Technology Race for Future

We talked to Jiangtao Li, Senior Director of TECNO Imaging Product and Head of TECNO TAIVOS™ Labs, to learn more about the lab, and also to learn about how he reimagines the future of mobile camera technology.

TAIVOS™ Lab, short for TECNO AI Vision Optimization Solution Lab, was set up to enhance photography and videography through the latest technology. When asked about how the lab came about, Li said, “Based on these grand objectives, our TAIVOS laboratory studies our devices extensively to make some deeper innovations that our users will enjoy and benefit from. We want to redefine how the mobile camera is perceived and what it can do for our users.”

With this goal in mind, one of TECNO’s grand challenges it had to overcome was to cater to the many varying views of beauty over different regions and cultures, combining the best of the past and the present. With this awareness that beauty can be subjective and individualized, TECNO added more than 200 professionals to its research team, successfully producing more than 6,120 Evaluation Scenarios spanning 115 countries. According to Li, TECNO is putting in so much effort because it is not enough to advance technology. Still, it is essential to build it with diversity in mind so that everyone can enjoy and utilize mobile imaging technology together. 

TAIVOS™ Lab’s final products have continually exceeded the expectations of consumers, producing many successful commercialized features. Specifically, TECNO TAIVOS™ certified cameras could reach a remarkable 4,500 fine-tuning settings thanks to the 3A Algorithm and ISP (Image Signal Processor) module. Pictures that are inclusive of all demographics and all three primary skin types, particularly those with darker skin tones, are sharpened. A comprehensive Material Library covers nine skin types and 76 categories so that everyone, regardless of demographic, gets to enjoy these improved features. On TECNO’s CAMON 18 Premier, these optimizations enable excellent visuals even in low-light situations.




Another breakthrough of TECNO TAIVOS™ Lab is in the advancement of the Screen Inspection Process. TECNO screens and cameras are fine-tuned for up to a half-year apiece throughout this procedure to provide users with the most bright and compelling colors. This has brought about many learnings for TECNO, as lighting is one major issue for mobile camera users that inhibits them from creating professional-level photos and videos. Li wants to democratize the pleasures of taking a good picture, and technology can be a significant aid to people looking to gain confidence in their photography skills.

TAIVOS™ Lab’s innovative deep technologies are also evident in its Image Algorithm Technology. Using AI algorithms for Image Super-Resolution, low-resolution images caused by digital zoom can be recovered. As a result, even for those with close to no photography skills, images on TECNO’s upcoming flagship will turn out to be more explicit, richer in detail, and more true-to-life than ever before. 




TAIVOS™ Lab has also patented various technologies to support the innovative ideas churned out by the lab. For example, featured inside the upcoming CAMON 18 Premier is a self-developed Galileo Algorithm Engine. Thanks to this new engine, TECNO says that users can enjoy ultra-long-distance shooting effects comparable to astronomical telescopes and pixel-level image segmentation accuracy, all from the comfort of the smartphone in their pocket.

Li shares: “TAIVOS started five years ago when we established a project department at that time, and then we began to accumulate our data from that time. We have a huge database, and compared to the entire industry, the quality of this database is high because, firstly, it is very focused. Secondly, we are spending a lot of energy to label the data. After we accumulate and label the data, we can do so much more to improve on what we have so that our users will always have the best.”

That data becomes helpful in applications such as a cutting-edge gender recognition feature that comes packed in the CAMON 18 Premier. For example, with a complete understanding that males and females have unique facial traits and different desires when taking selfies, the gender recognition AI protects the details of your natural features – men with beards can enhance them. At the same time, women can enable the technology to deliver beautiful lashes.

Rax Bautista's sixth Solo Exhibit entails "METANOIA"

Greek, from metanoiein to change one's mind, repent, from meta- + noein to think, from nous mind ; 

 A transformative change of heart
especially a spiritual conversion



The beauteous and accomplished artist, Raquel "Rax" Bautista considers "Metanoia" as a spiritual change of heart and  finding peace  and strength into the  mountains  

Being a lover of nature herself, she describes her sixth solo exhibit as ...


a series of artworks emanate her own story of reverence and offering tribute to the premier elemental source of life: Mother Nature.

This collection is a melding of repurposed finds that lure her fancy, stir her imagination, and compels herself to conceive. These withered natural particles she have gathered—from her walks along shores, treks through trails, hikes up and down verdant woods—are reincarnated when she integrate them into her art.

 Coupled with her passion with paint and other mixed media, this sacred union of herself with treasures of Mother Nature presents an array of a whole new level of what she wants to call a female artistic conception. Each with its unique message, emotion and atmosphere.


She used different kinds of medium this time.  Her pieces are made of acyllic glass,  salvaged woods metals, rocks and different components for her texture.  Her colors are all inspired by Mother Nature. 


Ms. Rax Bautists shares: 

"In such precarious era of multiple crises, I often find myself seeking strength in the mountains. After all, it is in vast spaces where one can breathe freely, both in a literal and a metaphorical sense. In this collection of work, I aim to convey the same tranquility I gained from the city.


Perhaps one might even consider the process behind creating these pieces as a from of meditation. Here is a journey through the different colors of the sunset, of volcanic activities, of the waves of the sea. Here are textures I have reimagined from rocks and stones I have collected when traversing mountains and forests filled with trees I cannot hold a name to, and many of nature’s priceless treasures.


In the end, it always returns to the abundance of the earth—always painted with different hues of light, never fails to inspire me to remain in the moment and to embrace life outside the physical world that I am so used to." 


She will be showcasing fourteen pieces and two wood sculptures for the show, four of them were painted in acrylic glass and it's back-lit, two in stainless steel and the rest are painted into the wood and canvas.

The artist describes the place of exhibit as "Very interesting,   it's industrial Japanese-inspired owned by Bench family. My obra  really fit with the structural of the place. And I am collaborating with  unique accent chairs by Industria Edition."

About the artist

An accomplished photographer, fashion stylist, creative director and painter. This Artist has recently been taking the Art world by surprise with fascinating concepts of mix media. Her vast knowledge and background started back in 1993 where she graduated with a degree in Fine Arts at the College of the Holy Spirit, then moved on to study fashion design at Premier School of fashion. But, her quest for more artistic education didn't stop there. She enrolled at the Philippine School of Interior Design before finally taking an even challenging step towards the art scene by taking up Photography at the Academy of Arts in San Francisco in 2002.

From then on, Raquel has circled the industry of fashion and art by working for such magazines like Metro, Manual, FHM, Toys for the Boys, Mirror and Metro working mom and various advertising companies.

Exhibits are nothing new to this Abstract painter. From her first solo exhibit on nude and body paint photography at Flute in Salcedo Village in 2003, to the 'black & white" nude exhibit held at absinth and Mezze in 2004, this talented artist continues to break the boundaries with this latest mix media art collection entitled "undaunted"

Filomeno believes that being a Ginebra San Miguel calendar girl is more than just being sexy and having a pretty face. “It is definitely beyond that. It is about being strong. I know I still have a lot to prove, not to other people, but to myself. My competition is myself and not anyone else,” she says. 










 
Filomeno, who reveals that she is a big fan of Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio, has likewise taken the basketball team’s famous mantra to heart. “My instinct has always been never-say-die. That’s my top-of-mind. Never-say-die in everything. What if you are an inch closer to success and then you give up? Sayang lahat ng pinagtrabahuhan mo. All the blood, sweat, and tears. Hanggang sa huling patak, dapat may bagong tapang. ‘Yun din ang reminder sa akin lagi ng parents ko,” she shares. 
 
With a combined following of over 6 million on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter, Filomeno knows that it is important especially in this time of the pandemic, to put such influence to good use. 
 
“I use it in a positive way, to inspire people, because that is what we all need right now. We should use our influence to inspire and give hope. That has been my goal,” relates Filomeno, who hopes to take this chance as Ginebra San Miguel’s newest brand ambassador to spread hope and positivity. Filomeno earned the admiration of netizens recently when she helped out a group of jeepney drivers who were begging for alms along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, and urged the public through her social media accounts to give back in any way they can.

TECNO believes that by Q1 2022 it will have products on the market that will allow users to take studio-quality photos and videos without professional skills. Significant progress in light sensitivity: Cameras on future TECNO phones in 2022 will be powered by a self-developed RGBW sub-pixel rendering algorithm that increases the light captured by the CMOS sensor by 60%. Light intake will be further enhanced by 30% thanks to the G+P (glass + plastic) lens technology, resulting in an overall 200% increase and bringing a revolutionary low-light imaging experience to consumers. 



First Android phone to integrate Sensor Shift: TECNO also plans to release its Sensor Shift technology in 2022, making itself the first mobile phone brand in Android system to do so. Sensor Shift is an image stabilization technology that uses sensor movements instead of lens movements to compensate for vibrations. In the future, the control accuracy of TECNO’s Sensor Shift will reach 350% of the current level with further algorithm optimization. Then, consumers will be able to take studio-quality photos with more stability.




Concept Phone with a telescopic lens in Q1 2022:  The telescopic lens has the advantage of large aperture and continuous lossless zoom. Consumers will benefit from better quality for profile and telephotograph, as well as its multi-purpose functionality. Moreover, compressed back focal length (BFL) design with motorized stretchable lenses will significantly reduce the thickness of the phone, integrating consumer’ demands for simple appearance and high performance. TECNO’s concept phone with a telescopic lens will come out in Q1 2022.
