Caritas Manila Extends Aid to Transport Workers Amid Crisis

In response to God’s call to serve the poor and vulnerable, Caritas Manila reached out to communities affected by economic hardship by distributing gift certificates for their essential needs.





A total of 176 tricycle and jeepney drivers from Pandacan, Manila received ₱2,000 worth of gift certificates to cover food and other essential expenses. The initiative titled “Sa Harap ng Hirap… Habag” was held at the Caritas Manila Multi-Purpose Building on April 20, 2026. The beneficiaries were members of the Pandacan Drivers Association (PANDASS) and the Pandacan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (PATODA).






The assistance was provided amid the continuing economic impact of the war abroad which has triggered increases in fuel prices and the cost of basic commodities.

More than financial support, the initiative became a lived expression of compassion (habag), showing that the Church walks alongside them in times of difficulty.

Through projects like this under its disaster response program (Damayan), Caritas Manila carries out its mission of charity in action, offering a tangible sign of hope in uncertain times.

Caritas Manila hopes to extend assistance to more families, but its capacity to do so depends greatly on the generosity of donors. Through the support of people of goodwill, more communities in need can receive timely assistance and hope.

A-lister actress Sharmaine Arnaiz made an appearance at the Maddox Jewelry showroom located at 1011 J.P. Rizal Street, Concepcion Uno, Marikina City. Personally visiting to explore luxurious pieces and strike a deal of her own.

Initially planning to sell or trade in her personal set of earrings, Sharmaine was pleasantly surprised after evaluation revealed its value at ₱34,000. With that, she was able to successfully trade it for a stunning necklace worth ₱24,000 plus an additional pair of earrings—definitely a glamorous win for the seasoned actress.

It was also evident that even before stepping into Maddox, Sharmaine was already familiar with the brand and its fast-rising President and Founder, Ms. Charo Cordial, whose name continues to shine in the jewelry scene.

But the conversation didn’t stop at sparkle and style. Sharmaine also shared her intention to sell their luxurious property in Southwoods—a massive 900+ square meter house and lot complete with a swimming pool and a scenic golf course view.

Interestingly, Ms. Charo herself expressed interest in the property, though she mentioned she would first need to personally inspect it together with her husband.

According to Sharmaine, the decision to sell stems from practicality, as her children are now studying in Manila. And with a hint of excitement, she revealed that once the property is sold, she plans to indulge in more Maddox Jewelry pieces—talk about turning assets into timeless elegance!
