Origin of the Original

Panda Express was founded by husband-and-wife tandem, co-CEO and co-founders Andrew and Peggy Cherng in 1983. They popularized American Chinese cuisine by using authentic Chinese recipes adapted to global tastes, which successfully established the brand as the largest Asian dining concept in the US and the largest American Chinese concept in the world.

Since the opening of the first Panda Express® location in the Philippines in late 2019, the bestselling Original Orange Chicken, a wok-tossed crispy chicken entree coated in sweet, tangy sauce, has drawn strong support from Filipino foodies. The dish was inspired by Panda’s co-founder Andrew Cherng’s hometown flavors of Yangzhou, China.

The Original Orange Chicken is Panda’s most popular dish and represents about a third of the entire business. In 2021, Panda Express® served over 117 million pounds of Orange Chicken worldwide!

Panda Express® launches new dish this Mother’s Day: Mongolian Pork

May 08, 2021

The new Mongolian Pork entrée features a savory, umami flavor profile -combining a hint of sweetness from the caramelized onions, scallions, red peppers, and mushrooms with the smokiness of the seared pork.

Celebrate this Mother’s Day with a gift of love and flavor from Panda Express! Launching on May 9th, Panda Express is debuting another popular entree, Mongolian Pork, which is the first pork entrée on its Philippines menu.

The Mongolian Pork is made with tender pork shoulder and crisp vegetables, wok-tossed in a savory ginger and garlic sauce.

This entrée is traditionally made with pork, stir-fried with white and green onions, but Panda Express deepened the layers of flavors by adding bell peppers and mushrooms, making it uniquely American Chinese.

The chefs’ technique mastering heat, flame, and the wok brings out the “Wok Hei,” or “breath of the wok,” which creates a smoky, umami flavor in the dish.

The complex flavors of this entrée is done through layering of ingredients: first, the aromatics as the flavor base; second, the pork that is seared perfectly to lock in the juiciness; third, the freshly-cut vegetables are cooked to bring out a sweet caramelization and finished with a ginger and garlic soy sauce.

Pair this delicious dish  with the famous Orange™ Chicken—Panda’s signature crispy chicken dish wok-tossed in a sweet and spicy orange sauce, or choose  the award-winning Honey Walnut Shrimp which is made with large tempura-battered shrimp tossed in a honey sauce andtopped with glazed walnuts. Complete the plate with Panda’s delicious Chow Mein , a stir-fried noodle dish with onions, celery, and cabbage.

Panda’s Mongolian Pork is available at participating locations (Megamall and North EDSA) for dinein and take out. It is also available for delivery via GrabFood® and foodpanda®.
