Ronnie Henares and Jojit Paredes are back together in rare reunion concert “Twofus…Reunion of Friends”

It will be the 70’s all over again on September 1, 2018, 8 pm at the Theater at Solaire Resort and Casino when Ronnie Henares and Jojit Paredes get together for a one-night rare reunion in “Twofus…Reunion of Friends.”
Today’s audiences instantly recognize Ronnie Henares as a mainstay in the popular comedy series “Pepito Manaloto” where he surprised people with his comic flair. Ronnie is also widely recognized as the manager in tandem with wife Ida, responsible for transforming steel-throated “Ang Bagong Kampeon” champ Chona Velasquez into the classy musical superstar Regine Velasquez. Others developed under their Primeline Management & Production, Inc., were Lani Misalucha, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Nanette Inventor, Tux, Gino Padilla and the list goes on.
Jojit, on the other hand, has since opted for a quieter life in the States.
But in the 70’s, Ronnie and Jojit were the musical heartthrobs of the day. They were, in a manner of speaking, the equivalent of Leif Garrett and Rex Smith in the Philippines, with throngs of screaming and swooning fans.
How it started
Close buddies from their La Salle grade school days, Ronnie Henares and Jojit Paredes together with Jim Paredes became lead vocalists of “Les Violents,” a high school band formed by the Paredes cousins.  The band was formed to enter a "Battle of the Bands" competition sponsored by De La Salle High School. They won Second Prize. “The high school band was the start of my musical partnership with Ronnie,” recalls Jojit. “We were invited to perform at all sorts of parties and gatherings.”
One of those gatherings was a weekend at the Laurel beach house in Matabungkay, Batangas upon the invitation of Lynnie Laurel. In the midst of the merriment, Ronnie and Jojit grabbed their acoustic guitars and started singing for the guests who were impressed by the two’s harmonious vocal blending.
The Twofus (pronounced as “Two of Us”) was born.
With boyish good looks and (social) class-transcending appeal, the Twofus would become a big hit among college and university campuses, the invites coming initially from exclusive private schools and later from public schools as well.
Soon, Ronnie and Jojit would invade radio, print, and television. They shuttled back and forth gigs on prime time TV, musicals, live shows, road tours, concerts, and radio shows. When the Twofus was introduced to Tower Productions, they turned composers for the first time, writing the movie theme for the fan flick starring Tina Revilla “Funny Girl.”
Ronnie and Jojit then became part of the highest rating prime time show that time, “D’ Sensations” which featured Vilma Santos and Bobot Mortiz. “One afternoon after a radio interview at the program of Ike Lozada in ABS-CBN, he brought us to meet Tony Santos, the famous director of the ‘D’ Sensations,’ the no. 1 primetime TV show at that time,” remembers Jojit. “Direk Tony Santos asked us if we could do an impromptu song and he’d put us on live. We took a deep breath and went for it. At first the audience fell silent as acoustic guitars were not yet amplified and the boom mike was picking up peripheral noise. When we finished the song, the audience went wild demanding more.”
For a couple of years, Sunday evenings televiewers were enthralled by the Twofus. In record time, Ronnie and Jojit cemented their status as national teen idols.
But the time to pursue different paths eventually came. Ronnie Henares went into hosting, singing, dancing, acting, directing, producing, and managing the careers of future superstars. Jojit Paredes enjoyed a solo caeer as an actor, singer, and recording arist until he decide to explore new adventures in America.
The road back
Some good teams, however, never lose their appeal.
Ronnie and Jojit got together last year and recalled how successful the US reunion of Twofus was. “It was heartwarming seeing familiar faces that we haven't seen in ages plus fans from our youth that packed the afternoon matinee and evening shows, and how much fun we had performing for them and watching them participate in the show,” says Ronnie who suggested that he and Jojit reunite in Manila with their artist friends and the Manila crowd that loves 70's music.
“These days we need a dose of yesteryears when love songs were tender, lengthy laugh trips were highly contagious and dancing expressed the soul’s joy and rhythm...more importantly when friendships lasted lifetimes,” adds Ronnie wistfully.

Ronnie Henares and Jojit Paredes will prove just that in their reunion concert on September 1, 2018, 8 pm at The Theatre at Solaire Resort and Casino. “Music lovers are going to love this concert,” Ronnie and Jojit or the Twofus, say in chorus, “The audience can expect to hear the hits of the times which aren't performed anymore in any of the entertainment venues in the country.”
Take a wonderful trip down memory lane with Ronnie and Jojit to an era when love songs were beautiful, tender, and had well thought-out lyrics and upbeat tunes made it impossible for you not to groove to the music.
The Twofus will captivate old and new audiences alike with hits from Chad and Jeremy, Mamas and the Papas, Everly Brothers, Beatles, Lettermen, Lovin Spoonfuls, Cascades and more.
Joining in on the fun are long time friends of Ronnie and Jojit like music icons Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo of the APO Hiking Society, funny lady Mitch Valdes, and the 70’s top dancing duo, the AldeguerSisters. “No stone is being left unturned to ensure we give the audience a fun-filled night of music, laughter and dance while celebrating long lasting friendship and the good old days,” says Ida R. Henares of Primeline Management & Production, Inc.

Jojit Paredes and Ronnie Henares
"Twofus…Reunion of Friends” gathered together the best production team that includes director and writer Floy Quintos, musical director Roy del Valle, art director Christian Henares, the team of Sisa Hernandez Kalson for production, Francis Libiran for the wardrobe, and the very best session back up singers and musicians.
Making this major throwback party for friends and music lovers of the 70’s possible are presenters Solaire Resort & Casino, PrimelineManagement & Production, Inc., and University of Perpetual Help, sponsors KARADA, PLDT 90 and Smart, M&Co cosmetics, donor HCB Institute, and media partners RJ FM 100.3, 91.5 WIN Radio, and The Philippine STAR.
Relive the good old days with friends and family at “Twofus…Reunion of Friends.”

“AN EVENING WITH PILITA” AT THE THEATRE AT SOLAIRE

October 17, 2017

Asia's Queen of Song, Miss Pilita Corrales

Pilita Corrales, Asia’s Queen of Song, icon and legend of the Philippine entertainment industry for the past 6 decades, goes on stage at 8 p.m. on November 17, 2017 at The Theatre at Solaire for “An Evening with Pilita”.
With Ms Corrales in the one-night-only concert will be the immensely popular AMP Band and the inimitable string section of the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra with Mel Villena as musical director. The exceptional combination of musicians will provide the big band sound of the 50s and 60s and a taste of the classics.

The show will profile nuggets of time in Pilita’s life and career.  She will be joined by her daughter Jackie Lou Blanco and son Ramon Christopher Gutierrez, both TV and motion picture personalities in their own right; her granddaughter Janine Gutierrez, and her old friends and colleagues in the industry Nikki Ross and Angie de la Cruz, better known as the Wing Duo.

Pilita started singing in Spanish as a host of the radio show “La Taberna” on KZPI.  Her career took off in Australia where she became the first woman to top the Australian pop charts with a song called “Come Closer to Me.” She was the first artist signed up by Astor Records. There is even a street in Victoria named after her.

In the early 60's, Pilita was back in Manila to pursue a musical career in her home country. At the same time as she recorded albums in Spanish, English, Tagalog, and Cebuano, Pilita was signed up by ABS-CBN to host and star in a long-running television musical show called “An Evening With Pilita.”

Ms Corrales has performed locally and abroad with stars like Sammy Davis, Jr., the Beatles, Bob Hope, Pat Boone, Frank Sinatra, and Julie Andrews.

When asked how she feels about the much-anticipated November 17 concert, Pilita says: “It is exciting. I will be at The Theatre at Solaire, which is beautiful and the sound is world class.”

Pilita was given the well-deserved title “Asia’s Queen of Songs” when she became the first Filipino to win in an international music festival, named the Best Performer at the 1st Tokyo Music Festival in 1972.

She has received every award imaginable in the local music industry. All of these accolades and milestones in her colorful and celebrated life and career will be at the center of “An Evening With Pilita.- the concert. “

Carlo Orosa the show’s director explains: “We want to show a side of Pilita that a lot of the young people have not seen. She is the first Filipino singer to actually showcase the Filipino talent internationally. She is both an icon and a legend.”

Pilita  is elated to be the next music icon to perform in The Theatre at Solaire’s continuing Icons Series after the sold-out and well-reviewed concerts of Basil Valdez and Celeste Legaspi. “The feeling is like you’re on cloud nine.”

Audie Gemora, Solaire's Entertainment Director says, “Solaire is home of OPM and what better way for us to establish this than to highlight ‘Icons of Filipino music.' Who can be more iconic that Pilita Corrales? Her distinct voice, performance style and image have regaled generations.  She is the only one to have had numerous hit albums in Spanish, English, Tagalog and Bisaya.  Anyone who has grown up watching “Bagong Kampeon” knows she has great personality and sense of humor.  We cannot wait to have Ms. Pilita on stage at The Theatre Solaire.”

"An Evening with Pilita" is presented by Solaire Resort and Casino. For tickets, please call Ticketworld at 8919999.

When Tears For Fears Ruled The World

“Everybody wants to rule the world...” this is according to the song of the 80’s UK New Wave Band, Tears For Fears. And for two nights at the Smart Araneta Colisem on August 10 & 11, the band themselves did exactly this to the world, the Philippines in particular by selling out their 2 night jampacked concert filled out to the rafters.

By choice and design, the band, led by their two lead singers in Roland Orzabal ang Curt Smith, opened the gig with a bang by rendering their first number one single in the US in 1985, none other than (you guessed it right) Everybody Wants To Rule The World. This act immediately brought the house down when almost all  of us stood up and started singing along with the band. (Although personally I would like it to be the finale for impact). According to some of the lyrics of this hit song, the walls come tumbling down which I thought at the moment would happen because of the sudden surge of energy inside the venue.

And if you are a fan of theirs, you would notice right away the almost perfect music and sound quality as if we were just listening to a CD. (Kudos to the sound engineers). You would say that the voices of both Roland and Curt haven’t changed at all considering it was more than 20 years ago when they first emerged on the music scene - Sorry guys, but i’m an avid fan :))

They wisely chose their lineup of songs,  mixing the old hits with some moderate ones in order to continuously light up the mood of their captive audience. There was also a different rendition of the popular “Billie Jean” song of the late Michael Jackson which caught some of us by surprise at first, ( guilty on my part) not knowing it ‘till the familiar lyrics sank in.
Every now and then, people would stood up to dance or sing and in return the band would show their appreciation by acknowledging and thanking the crowd.

Of course there would be some drama inluded. After performing one of their hits near the end of the show, Roland and Curt, along with their bandmembers would waive goodbye and leave the stage as if to  signify the end of the concert. Naturally, the audience would clamor for more. But it took the band a little longer than usual to come out, so by instinct and out of nowhere, the crowd started to singing some lines from another famous song of the group which right up to that moment was not yet sung. Obligingly, the band came out for their encore.

After performing another slow hit song, fittingly, the famous band chose their popular second number one hit in America, Shout for it’s finale. By this time, the house is already rocking.
And before I forget, there’s a saying that goes like this “When it rains, it pours”. You know why, because I felt this is what happened.

See? Here's what I'm talking about... the jampacked crowd during their second day concert

Amazingly, the front act to this show was Per Sorensen of Fra Lippo Lippi, another popular group in the mid 80’s. He sang almost all his hits in a 45 minute performance. Imagine the mood he stirred up just to entice our appetite?! ;))
Picture this, Fra Lippo Lippi as your appetizer to the main dish which is Tears For Fears. You could not ask for more! It’s worth it. (I surely do)

Kudos for Tears For Fears for donating all their merchandise sales to the Red Cross for helping the recent flood victims, (although I thought that the prices were a little too high, anyway it’s for a cause) and thank you to the organizers for a well thought concert.

I so love it! Still looking forward to their next! ;))

Fra Lippo Lippi’s Per Sorensen is Master of Imperfection

International singer-songwriter Per Sorensen, the voice behind the bestselling Norwegian music export Fra Lippo Lippi, has released his new solo album Master of Imperfection, which includes his new recordings of Fra Lippo Lippi’s classics Later and Beauty and Madness.

The album has Loneliness as his first single and a cover of James Taylor’s Fire and Rain.
Master of Imperfection highlights the endearing vulnerability to Per’s voice, where melancholia pours down to the cracks of these tracks.

Per adds, “In 1986, I wrote the song Beauty and Madness with lyricist Rune Kristoffersen for the upcoming Fra Lippo Lippi album Light and Shade (1987). You're either too young to remember, or too old, for that matter. Anyway, I love that song, so I re-recorded it for this album. Hope you like it, too!”

Master of Imperfection includes ten songs, which, hopefully, will lift music fans’ souls for some forty `minutes.

Incidentally, Per Sorensen will be having a two-day concert here in the Philippines with the "Tears For Fears" duo this August 10 and 11 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

4 DA BEST - THE REPEAT "WAPAK NA WAPAK !!!"

Who would doubt about the rollicking tandem of Pokwang, Pooh, Chocoleit and K Brosas? Once you’ve heard their names, you know exactly what it pegs...RIOT! In a recent presscon of the anticipated repeat performance of their concert entitled, “4 Da Best,” at Packo’s Grill and Bar in Q.C., K Brosas and Chocoleit were very much present to entice the expecting media.

K Brosas has always been herself, you can tag her as “kalog,” “lukring,” “kikay,” “maingay,” “bulgar,” but the fact still remains that, it’s really her, that’s K. Whereas Chocoleit was at his mood to talk about everything including their show, and their friendship. K was even quoted in saying, "Wapak na wapak ang '4 Da Best,' hindi dahil show namin 'to 'no. Pero kami mismo sumusuko sa katatawa sa mga pinaggagagawa ng bawa't isa sa concert."

“It won’t work kung kaming apat ay hindi talaga magkakakilala, magkakasama, kahit sabihin mong magkakasamang apat, tapos ‘yung apat naman hindi naman talagang personal na magkakilala, hindi alam ‘yung mga kalokohan, hindi rin magwowork nang ganun, like kaming apat ay talagang ganun, marami na kaming pinagsamahan, way, way back pa,” Chocoleit stated, in reply to the question, how did they establish the rapport with each other.

While K was telling us that, before every show, “Kapag mine-make up-an pa lang kami, ang ingay-ingay sa dressing room.” And Chocoleit even added that, “ang purpose ‘nun kasi para bago magsimula ‘yung show, ‘yung pagiging hyper namin mabuild-up."

The two also admitted that they challenge themselves most of the time without offending each other only by trying to outdo each other’s antics. “Challenge lang, hindi pang-asar, mukha lang kaming nang-aasar pero hindi, balanseng- balanse lang talaga” K added.

The four celebrated comediennes/ comedian can't be pulled off from giving their best shots in their performances. They promise to give their audience double fun and laughter in all those three nights of performances, slated on May 4, 11 & 12 at the Music Museum.

"Iisipin ng iba na ginawa na namin ang lahat-lahat sa una naming concert. Well, that's not true. Marami pang sorpresa kayong makikita sa repeat namin. Mahirap ikuwento eh, basta," Chocoleit's promise to everybody.

By the way, the show is under Amine entertainment and is directed by veteran comedy concert director Andrew de Real. Their previous two-night performances at the Music Museum last March proved to be very successful. Would they surpass their own record? That, remains to be seen... Good luck to you guys!
