NutriAsia and Papa team up with DepEd to teach students about proper nutrition

School children from Regions I, X, XI, and the Cordillera Administrative Region received DepEd workbooks and Papa products for a truly unique learning experience!

Proper diet and nutrition are crucial in young children’s formative years. These foster proper development for children, leading to good health, intelligence, and behavior, thus giving them better chances in succeeding later in life.

In light of this, NutriAsia and Papa forged a partnership with both Marylindbert International and the Department of Education (DepEd) for school year 2020-2021, the Pinggang Pinoy Pina-Sweet Sarap Comprehensive School Program. It is a special module that teaches the importance of having the right diet and nutrition. Powered by Papa Banana Catsup and Papa Spaghetti Pack, the program aims to educate Grade 1 and 2 Filipino students about how keeping a good diet with the right nutrition leads to proper and healthy development.

“With the Pinggang Pinoy Pina-Sweet Sarap Comprehensive School Program, we have a whole plan ready for teaching young Filipinos how to keep a proper diet and take in the nutrients they need,” said NutriAsia President and COO Angie Flaminiano. “We hope to be a part of their good growth and development and, in turn, the Philippines’ growth as well.” The Pinggang Pinoy program will be launched in 30 participating schools across the country, namely in Regions I, X, XI, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

In photo (L-R): Department of Education Usec. Diosdado M. San Antonio and Former DepEd Regional Director and K to 12 Curriculum Consultant Dr. Paraluman Giron paved the way for the partnership with Papa Catsup.

The class module is the first in the three-stage Pinggang Pinoy program. The second stage will involve cooking demonstrations and activities that will show students and parents how to prepare healthy snacks using Papa products. The final stage will involve a cooking contest that will challenge students, teachers and parents to create unique recipes using Papa Banana Catsup and Papa Spaghetti Pack.

Papa’s advocacy of helping educate Filipinos in the classroom and beyond has also led them to produce edutainment Facebook videos for NutriAsia’s HomeSchool Program. These videos can be viewed at

The power of storytelling in raising smart, compassionate kids

January 15, 2021

To many parents, there is nothing more fulfilling other than instilling the right set of values in their children. That is why right from their pregnancy, all the way to the formative years of their kids and beyond, they do their best to shape their minds so they grow to be healthy and smart with a heart for a kinder world.

Of course, this also comes with exposing their children to many activities that would plant the right seeds for them. One of them is through reading books — an activity in which a child’s colorful imaginations run free. Rey Bufi, the founder of nonprofit organization, The Storytelling Project, and also a father himself, shares this belief as he harps the love and joy of reading with kids in far-flung communities in the Philippines.

Growing up, Rey admits that he was not much of a reader. But somehow in 2012, he found himself establishing a volunteer organization that aims to raise a nation of readers. “As a child, I always loved history and though I was not entirely a reader, I was fond of listening to stories of hope and inspiration about great, compassionate leaders,” Rey shared. “Service has always been my love language. It was in college when I was having a hard time and reading helped me cope. I realized, had I been a reader earlier, I wouldn’t have had a hard time. And that is how my passion for stories and service came together,” he added.

Today, Rey continues with his passion for sharing stories.  He recently participated as a host and storyteller in Enfagrow A+ Four’s Tales of Kindness from the #HealthySmartKidWithAHeart campaign, which featured stories of kindness to inspire parents to teach their children about compassion.

Reading stories to Filipino children has opened the eyes of Rey to many realities. Just as he read them stories, he likewise learned meaningful life lessons from the stories of people he encountered in his journey. To him and his wife Grace Bufi, these children are characters in their own stories. “The tales they tell make a huge impact on their overall development. It helps them communicate and make sense of the world they are in and what is happening inside themselves,” said Rey. Grace, on the other hand, said that storytelling does not only develop listening skills. “It also teaches kids the values of empathy and patience as they sit for longer periods of time. It helps kids string new words together and ignite a passion for discovering new things.”

To both Rey and Grace, their key role in establishing The Storytelling Project is to mold children to have a kind and altruistic foundation. Aside from helping them perform better academically, driving kids to uphold their values and espouse the goodness in their hearts remain their goal as parents, guardians, and caregivers.

Rey and Grace Bufi are parents to two wonderful children. When asked how they apply their learnings as storytellers and volunteers in their home, the Bufis said that, “Our work as volunteers is to let our children experience our adventures when we are close to normalcy. When we’re in the field, you get the privilege of being a part of somebody’s slice of life. And this allows you to interact in a more compassionate and caring manner even if you only spent a little time with them.”

To Rey, raising healthy and smart kids with a good heart starts with equipping them with the proper nutrition, and then harnessing it with experiences that will remind them to do good. “Doing good should come from the heart, because only then will the people around you feel it and inspire them to do good as well,” Rey said.

It's official! "Revival King" Jojo Mendrez to remake Julie Vega's "Somewhere In My Past"

January 13, 2021

"Revival King" Jojo Mendrez

After thirty five years, since the song "Somewhere In My Past," was originally launched by 80's famous teenstar, the late Julie Vega... now it can be told who's the very fortunate artist to have this great chance to revive the said hit siingle.

I've also written a related article last week about the quest for the artist to revive the 80's popular song, "Somewhere In My Past," and that Jojo was seen to have visited Julie Vega's grave. You can check out the whole story here.

Today, the "big reveal" and the "good news" happened via Facebook live with some of the entertainment media and bloggers. The said announcement was officiated by no other than, Doc Mon del Rosario himself, the composer of "Somewhere In My Past." During the said phone patch, he was able to share some back story and insights about the most-talked about song.

The late Julie Vega

Doc Mon shared that he used to have a dream about this young girl and as he grow older, the girl in his dreams got older too, so he decided to compose a song out of that, thus "Somewhere In My Past" was born. And he knew that it would perfectly fit Julie's charm that time. The song has deeper meaning for him and he considers it one of his favorite compositions of all time.

As soon as he announced Jojo Mendrez's name, to officially revive the said song, everyone got so excited and felt happy for Jojo who was not able to join the said Facebook live due to prior commitments. Aside from being known as a "Revival King," Jojo is also busy and very much engaged with his philantropic activities, a helpful heart by nature.

When Doc Mon was asked about the criterias they were looking for prior to choosing Jojo to be "the one," he clearly stated, that first is the quality of voice... one that possesses high level of competency as a singing artist and the hidden criteria which is the personality of the artist... he or she should be a likeable person even outside the song. And he believed that those said qualities were said to have been found in Jojo. And he's happy with his decision and also believes that Jojo will do a hood job.

Jojo has also received an award just last year for his revival song, "Handog," as PMPC Star Awards for Music-Best Revival Song of the Year. He had also received another recognition from the Laguna Excellence Awards as 2020 Outstanding Revival Artist of the Year for the song (again) "Handog." I guess, Jojo truly deserves whatever blessing he's receiving right now, doesn't he?

They had also announced that they might start the recording next week and hoping they could finish it before Valentine's Day. They've been talking to top recording labels and so far they've been receiving good feedbacks. This will be under Star Image Artists Management and will be released digitally via Spotify, iTunes, Amazon music and Deezer.

Congratulations Jojo! What a great way yp start the New Year!!!

Looking forward to hear your own rendition of "Somewhere In My Past."

What's the indication of Jojo Mendrez's visit to Julie Vega's grave?

January 04, 2021

Revival King Jojo Mendrez visits 80's famous actress Julie Vega's grave

When someone pays visit and gives respect to someone's grave... considering he/she's not a kin or a close friend at all... people would think of any other reasons for the said gesture, right?!

80's famous singer-actress Julie Vega

Back in the 80's, famous teen star Julie Vega , Julie Pearl Apostol Postigo in real life, from the famed tv soap opera, "Anna Liza" and her gold record debut single "Somewhere in my past," had struck the public genuinely more so, her untimely demise at the young age of sixteen, had even shocked everyone most especially her avid supporters and followers in the year 1985.

I can still sing her famous song, actually up until now. Multi-awarded composer Mon del Rosario wrote the song for Julie and now he had set up several auditions as to who will be the "lucky" and "most deserving" one to revive "Somewhere in my past." It seems that his lips are still sealed and speculations have been spreading that there were five known artists in the recording industry who were shorlisted.

"Revival King" Jojo Mendrez

As for the "Revival King," Jojo Mendrez, who paid a visit to Julie Vega's grave last January 3, 2021, is this a clear indication that he is the "chosen" one to revive the said classic song of Julie Vega? Or he was just there to pay tribute to the famed actress since he also adores her like any other artist or fan?

More questions were asked regarding Jojo's gesture... whether he was just being grateful to the singer-actress or could he be there only to ask blessing or permission out of respect to the late teen star to revive the 80's famous song?

Only Jojo can answer all these queries and speculations. As of now nothing and no one has given the final verdict yet.

All we have to do is just wait and see for the best is yet to come.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

A Healthy, Worry-free and Progressive Year for the San Joseños!!!

January 04, 2021

As we all bid goodbye to the very historical and memorable year, 2020... San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan's "Power Couple," Mayor Arthur Robes and Congresswoman Florida "Ate Rida" P. Robes had once again given the importance of celebrating and welcoming the New Year with a bang and with proper social distancing, wearing of masks and face shields of all the attendees.

We are very much aware that it hasn't been an easy year for most of us, so the best way to bid farewell and shooo away all the misfortunes and bad lucks that 2020 had brought us was to show positivity and be hopeful that this 2021 could be a better year for all of us! And that's what the San Joseños did as a good example headed by the #PowerCouple .

During the last night of the year 2020, the San Joseños gathered for the public opening of the Disney-inspired Photo Wall located at the Savano Park. Barangay San Manuel in San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan.

The "Power Couple..." as simple as they seem... their wish is also as simple as everyone else.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY during the launch as the Year  2020 ends...

The DISNEY-INSPIRED PHOTO WALL

This is open for public and everyone is welcome to visit provided that we observe proper wearing of face masks, face shields and social distancing

To add more fun and excitement, the beauteous and very talented Congresswoman "Ate Rida" has also joined the "Dance Mob" during the celebration.

Year 2020 was not only a year of "devastation," but also a significant year for the "Power Couple" and to all the San Joseños...

Cong. Rida Robes was so elated and honored to announce during the inauguration of the San Jose Del Monte Convention Center in Barangay Sapang Palay, that President Duterte has officially declared San Jose Del Monte as a "highly-urbanized city!"

That was the "real" moment that they've been waiting and working hard to achieve. She also promised to even work more to make them truly deserving of the proclamation for the peoole of San Jose Del Monte.

Duterte issued Proclamation No. 1057 declaring San Jose Del Monte as a highly-urbanized city “subject to ratification in a plebiscite by qualified voters in the city.”

Both Mayor Art Robes and Rep. Ate Rida has high hopes and wishes for this year, 2021. They were hoping and praying that this year will turn out to be the best year for all of us, worry-free and that may we still be able to cope up with our everyday life plus to have a much better economy provided that we observe proper ECQ protocols.

To the "Power Couple," and their family... and to all the San Joseños... Happy New Year and Congratulations for a job very well done!!!

SCPA Celebrates A Pascong Pinoy

2020 has been a challenging time for the Filipino people. With the lockdown extending beyond the initial 6 months, multiple businesses were affected and millions displaced from their jobs. The last agenda on anyone’s minds is celebrating the holidays as we approach the pandemic’s first anniversary.

And yet, Sanitary Care Products Asia, Inc. (SCPA) saw God’s covering upon their company from COVID-19's economic and social effects throughout the year. As a response to His goodness, the management decided to push through with their annual Christmas party through virtual means! The goal was to inspire employees to share their blessings with their families and those in greater need.

As their way of gratitude and in line with their first-ever virtual Christmas party, SCPA commissioned local recording artist, DJ, and producer Silverfilter to write the company’s very own holiday theme song – “Pasco”.

Marketing Director Lea Sio-Pacis shared a bit about the conceptualization. “When we were creating the song, our inspirations were local TV station IDs broadcast over the holidays, SCPA’s purpose of providing Filipinos with high-quality hygiene products, and our core values of Service, Christ-Centered Principles, Passion, and Accountability.   Because of the Christmas theme, it was very organic for the focus to be on our Lord Jesus Christ while also referring to SCPA’s continued service following Christ’s example.” With those ideas in mind, Silverfilter proceeded with writing and arranging.

To mark this historic occasion, SCPA’s holiday theme song was the driving force behind the Christmas party’s music video competition. Each SCPA branch interpreted “Pasco” by highlighting Pinoy culture, our collective struggle, and our hope in the Lord through distinct, creative visuals.

We are happy to share with you one entry each from SCPA’s Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao branches!

Richard Gutierrez, his wife Sarah and their kids are Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol's Brand Ambassadors!

Defensil's Brand Ambassadors--- The Gutierrez Family

Defensil 70% Solution Isopropyl Alcohol continues its campaign to be Filipino families’ ally in germ protection in the new normal as they welcome newlyweds, Richard Gutierrez and Sarah Lahbati, together with their adorable kids Zion and Kai, as their brand ambassadors.

Adjusting to the New Normal with Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol
Richard and Sarah, who got married in a solemn ceremony earlier this year, celebrated their new life together in quarantine. While being stuck at home was an opportunity for them to spend more time together as a family—planting, painting and playing all sorts of games, they also needed to go through a lot of adjustments as a family.

One adjustment that they had to do was to look for better ways to protect their family against germs, with the threat of the virus still continuing up until now. They found their newest ally in Defensil 70% Solution Isopropyl Alcohol, which promises a higher level of protection against germs and viruses.

“We believe in innovative products. Not only does Defensil come from a company we trust, Defensil 70% Solution Isopropyl Alcohol is also recommended by experts,” said Sarah. “And since we use alcohol more frequently to sanitize, I also like how it not only kills germs and bacteria, but also has moisturizer to not dry our skin,” she added.

One way to prevent the spread of germs is regular disinfection of hands and high touch surfaces using a rubbing alcohol. To provide a higher level of defense against germs in the new normal, the Philippine Society for Microbiology is recommending Defensil 70% Solution Isopropyl Alcohol.

Created by Beauty Elements Ventures Inc, Defensil 70% Solution Isopropyl Alcohol kills 99.9% of germs to give Richard and Sarah’s family the peace of mind that they are well-defended. It starts to kill germs on contact and upon constant use, provides up to 12-hour protection.

New Normal Holidays
Celebrating the holidays is surely going to be different for the Gutierrez family this year. For Richard and Sarah, social distancing is something that they’re keeping in mind as they celebrate the holiday season, along with making sure that everyone sanitizes and disinfects using Defensil.

The family wishes to go on a local holiday trip with family bringing their new ally, Defensil. With this, Sarah shares three simple tips to fellow parents on how to keep their family safe from germs during the holiday season.

First, social distancing is a must. Second, always wear a mask. It is important for parents to teach their kids the importance of wearing masks, which help to prevent the transmission of the virus. And, lastly, always disinfect with an alcohol that makes sure you and the family are well-defended— like Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol.

To know the difference, the front label of a pharmaceutical grade alcohol shows the product’s generic name enclosed in a box. Meanwhile, the back label should show a DRHR number, which is the FDA Production Registration Number, proving that the product has passed the highest FDA Standards for isopropyl alcohol.
