Nag-iisang Kara…Tatlong Dekada Kara David celebrates 30 years as a Kapuso, Renews Ties with GMA

July 16, 2025

Kara Patria Constantino David, whose name
means "Beloved Homeland," has devoted the past three decades of her career to unearthing and telling powerful stories across the Philippines.

On July 8, 2025, in celebration of her 30th year in the industry, Kara renewed her ties with GMA Network. The ceremonial contract signing gathered network executives, colleagues, and individuals whose lives Kara has touched through her work.

In attendance were GMA President and CEO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., GMA Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, and Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Executive Vice President for GMA Pictures Nessa Valdellon.

In his video message, GMA Network Chairman Atty. Felipe L. Gozon congratulated Kara on her 30 years of being a loyal Kapuso.

“Ang mga istoryang inihahatid mo, lalo na sa iyong mga dokumentaryo, ay tumatatak sa puso at isip ng mga Pilipino. Masaya kami na patuloy kang magiging bahagi ng GMA Network at GMA Public Affairs. Ang ibig sabihin nito ay marami ka pang award-winning na kuwentong maihahatid at magmumulat sa kamalayan at makapagpapabuti ng buhay ng ating mga manonood. Maraming salamat sa iyong malasakit at dedikasyon,” said Atty. Gozon.

Mr. Duavit likewise lauded Kara’s contribution to GMA Network.

“The contribution of Kara cannot be measured. Kara has worked before, in front of, behind the camera. Lahat ng kontribusyon niya sa mga programa, sa mga isip at diwa ng ating manonood at ating mga Kapuso, hindi natin masusukat. We are privileged, honored, happy, na si Kara ay isang Kapuso at mananatili pang Kapuso,” said Duavit.

“Kara, thank you very much for your continued trust and support and for being Kara David. You are a credit to all of us. Ginagalang at minamahal ka naming lahat,” he added.

Mr. Yalong also thanked Kara’s dedication to her craft.

“Kara, salamat that you continue to be with us. And I hope that you will come up with more documentaries that are very meaningful and very timely for the situation that we have right now. Again, salamat sa iyo,” he said.

Meanwhile, Valdellon underscored Kara’s work beyond television. “On behalf of Public Affairs, thank you for your 30 years of purpose-driven storytelling. Thank you for sending so many of our I-Witness case studies to school – making sure they were able to graduate from college from the time you met them in elementary. Thank you for staying relevant and relatable. Thank you for touching countless lives and thank you for loving GMA for three decades,” said Valdellon.

Overflowing with gratitude, Kara shared how she looks forward to continuing her meaningful journey as a loyal Kapuso.

“Thank you, GMA, for giving me a chance. I will be forever grateful to you for taking a chance on me when nobody else wanted to. Thank you for giving me this platform. Thank you for allowing me to tell stories and for allowing me to use these stories to help more people in the Philippines. ‘Yun naman ‘’yung tatak ng Serbisyong Totoo–ginagawa natin ang istoryang ito hindi para sa sarili pero para sa mas marami. At iyon ang itinuro sa akin ng GMA,” said David.

Also celebrating Kara’s milestone were Public Affairs’ Vice President Arlene Carnay, Assistant Vice Presidents Jonathan Tam and Joy Madrigal, Senior Program Managers Sherilyn Bruan and Joseph Conrad Rubio, and Program Manager Maharlika Corullo. Present as well was Assistant Vice President for Corporate Communications Jojo Aquio.

Beyond 30 Years of Impactful Storytelling

Kara's television career began with on-the-job training on "Super Show" before officially joining GMA in 1995 as a production assistant. She quickly transitioned into writing roles for "Brigada Siete" and "Emergency," and later became a reporter for "Brigada Siete" and "I-Witness." Her extensive career includes anchoring "News to Go" and hosting "Power House," "Brigada," "Case Unclosed," "OFW Diaries," and "Pinas Sarap" - which has been GTV’s number 1 program for two consecutive years. She remains one of the pioneering hosts of "I-Witness," which celebrated its 25th year in 2024.

She has produced hundreds of award-winning documentaries, earning numerous accolades such as the UNICEF Child Rights Award for “Selda Inosente,” a George Foster Peabody Award for “Ambulansyang de Paa,” and Investigative Journalist of the Year for "Bitay." She was also recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in 2007 and one of the Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation's Service (TOWNS) in 2011.

Outside of television, Kara founded "Project Malasakit," a scholarship initiative that began through the cases featured in her documentaries – turning stories into lasting impact.

During the contract renewal, GMA Public Affairs honored Kara with a surprise tribute: a live storybook presentation chronicling her journey and the many lives she has touched on and off camera.

The signing event also marked the official launch of Kara’s newest project – GMA Public Affairs’ latest podcast, “I-Listen.” Featuring heartfelt conversations that truly resonate with listeners, each episode tells the unique stories of Filipinos, showcasing raw, relatable experiences that will touch your heart and spark meaningful reflection. It will soon be available on GMA Public Affairs' social media platforms, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

Gabby Concepcion and Sanya Lopez make viewers fall in love anew in ‘First Lady’

February 14, 2022

This Valentine’s Day, GMA Entertainment Group proudly presents one of the Network’s most anticipated series and the sequel to the Philippines’ No. 1 show for 2021, ‘First Lady.’

Gabby Concepcion

The original drama stars once again the swoon-worthy pairing of award-winning actor Gabby Concepcion as President Glenn Acosta and brilliant Kapuso actress Sanya Lopez as First Lady Melody Acosta.
“Talagang hindi naman namin iniisip na magkakaroon ng book 2,” Gabby shared. “Although, ‘yung first book, talagang napakaganda. We have a good team that brought us to where we are right now.”

Sanya Lopez

On the other hand, Sanya admits that the change in her character is challenging. “Mas challenging po talaga ang maging First Lady,” she said. “’Yung First Yaya kasi medyo malapit-lapit pa talaga kay Sanya ‘yung character eh. Unlike now, ‘yung pagiging First Lady inaaral ko po talaga. Of course, nandyan din naman po si Direk LA (Madridejos) to help me.”

First Yaya ended on a happy note with the fairytale romance of President Glenn and Melody. This time around, the newlywed couple navigates new territory and delves into trust and doubt; change and tradition; and the line of clear communication that will challenge their marriage. As Glenn seeks another term to his presidency, Melody needs to reassess and find her place once more in her husband’s ever-chaotic and busy life.

Playing important roles in the primetime soap are Pancho Magno as he reprises his role as PSG Captain Conrad Enriquez, head of PGA’s security detail and the primary protector of the First Family; Ms. Pilar Pilapil as Blesilda, the headstrong mother of PGA who will stop at nothing to protect the presidency; Boboy Garovillo as Florencio, Melody’s father who passed away but still appears to her visions; Maxine Medina as Lorraine, Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications and Head of the Speech Writers Group and Melody’s former rival turned “frienemy”; Thou Reyes as Yessy, Presidential Management Chief-of-Staff who also holds the post of Presidential Spokesperson; and Ms. Sandy Andolong as Edna, the loving and streetwise mother of Melody.

Back to showcase more spark and fun are Cassy Legaspi as Nina Acosta, the eldest daughter of PGA who is also running for a position in her school government; and JD Domagoso as Jonas, Nina’s boyfriend who also joins the school campus elections but ends up competing against her. Also returning to the series are Clarence Delgado as Nathan, the second child of PGA whose resolve is tested when his family is besieged by challenges to their stability and security; and Patricia Coma as Nicole, the youngest child of PGA who is closest to Melody.

Making the series more exciting is seasoned actress Alice Dixson as Atty. Ingrid Domingo, a political strategist that eventually gets hired by President Glenn Acosta’s (PGA) campaign team to be the political director of his presidential bid. Moreover, she is revealed to be Glenn’s former serious girlfriend – a fact that could rock not just the presidency, but also the President’s family.

In a very special guest appearance, award-winning actor and one of GMA's prime leading men Rocco Nacino steps in as Mayor Moises Valentin, a rising political star and young hotshot Mayor of “Magat” City. He is suave and good-looking, and develops a “special” friendship with Melody even when he is allied with the opposition party.

The other addition to the powerhouse cast includes Isabel Rivas as Allegra Trinidad, a former first lady and former number 1-elected senator. She’s the queen bee of a group of three former first ladies terrorizing the new first lady and former yaya, Melody; Francine Prieto as Soledad Cortez, a former first lady initially loyal to Allegra who ends up becoming an adversary; Samantha Lopez as Ambrocia Bolivar, another former first lady who is loyal to Allegra; Shyr Valdez as Manang Sioning, a veteran staff of the Presidential palace who was on leave but is now back to make sure that everything is under order; John Feir as Teddy, President Glenn Acosta’s Campaign Manager; Divine as Bella, Yessy’s office assistant and Ingrid’s double-agent.

Returning to the series as well to spice up the lives of PGA and Melody are the well-loved characters of Kakai Bautista as Pepita; Analyn Barro as Gem Rose Reyes-Agcaoili; Glenda Garcia as Marni Tupaz; Cai Cortez as Norma; Thia Thomalla as PSG Lt. Val Cañete; Anjo Damiles as Jasper Agcaoili; Jon Lucas as Titus De Villa; Jerick Dolormente as Lloyd Reyes;  Muriel Lomadilla as Bevs; Kiel Rodriguez as PSG Paul Librada; Atak as Impak; Cecil Paz as Jesse.

With the upcoming presidential elections, the series will also serve as a timely and relatable source of entertainment for Filipinos nationwide. Political and research consultants, including a national elections political strategist and a current member of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), were hired to help to create a realistic view of the First Family’s daily life.
‘First Lady’ is under the supervision of the GMA Entertainment Group headed by SVP for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, VP for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, AVP for Drama Helen Rose Sese, Senior Program Manager Ali Nokom-Dedicatoria, and Executive Producer Joy Lumboy-Pili.
The drama is a product of the visionary minds of Concept Creators Jojo Tawasil Nones and Marlon G. Miguel; Creative Director Aloy Adlawan; Content Development Consultant Ricky Lee; Creative Head Dode Cruz; Creative Consultant Kit Villanueva-Zapata; Headwriter Jojo Tawasil Nones; Senior Writers Marlon G. Miguel, Christine Badillo-Novicio, and Obet Villela; and Junior brainstormer Jai Shane Canete.
Catch the highly-anticipated world premiere of 'First Lady' – under the helm of esteemed director LA Madridejos and associate director Rechie del Carmen – beginning February 14, weeknights, on GMA, GTV and Heart of Asia.
Viewers abroad can also catch the program via GMA Pinoy TV. For more stories about the Kapuso Network, visit www.GMANetwork.com.

Mcoy Fundales and Kyryll, two of altG Records' exceptional artists

Mcoy Fundales during his comeback blogcon

After nine years of "hiatus" in the music scene, we can now hear and watch the former vocalist of "Orange and Lemons" band, Mcoy Fundales and now a creative writer at GMA Network's "Pepito Manaloto," a comedy tv program starring Michael V.

Backtracking Mcoy's career with his former band, "Orange and Lemons," their single, "Hanggang Kailan (Umuwi kana baby), was a real hit back in the year 2005 and the millennials are also singing that song 'til present because it still play over the airwaves, in the commercials, movie or tv soundtracks. Not to mention their song "Pinoy Ako," which was used by the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) as its tv theme song back then.

Most of us haven't heard from Mcoy ever since "Orange and Lemons" disbanded last October 2007, but he hasn't left singing at all after that incident, he formed a band called "Kenyo" in the year 2007 until present, they have been busy doing their gigs and other engagements outside our country. Another thing that we ought to know about Mcoy, is that, he found comfort in writing...

Mcoy said, "Na-miss ko rin kumanta. My last album was in 2010 so that's almost nine years na, I'm happy and excited kasi for five ti six years, nagsusulat ako for tv, at ngayon, nagre-record na ako ulit ng mga kanta." Actually the singer/songwriter is keeping himself busy by writing and producing shows for various GMA Network's shows like "Pepito Manaloto" and "StarStruck." He has but only good words to his mentor Michael V, who had inspired him so much to explore more of his skills in creative writing.

And today, he's back and doing what he considers a "dessert" (music), or a "wonderful break from writing." He also shared, "This is my hobby what I always wanted. Itong pagkanta kasi mahal ko at gusto kong gawin. I'm excited to promote this single." And the "single" that he's talking about is entitled, "Bakit Kita Hahabulin?" under altG Records. The song is a "modern kundiman," composed by Kian Dionisio. Mcoy was attracted to this song since it tackles various feelings. From my own point and observation, I think it also sounded like some of "Apo Hiking Society's" songs, which I found very amusing and pleasing to the ears and it's also a bit theatrical.

During his blogcon, we were also privileged to watch Mcoy's music video of "Bakit Kita Hahabulin?" And true to what he had relayed to us, that we should also watch the video's end credits like most of the present films that's being streamed in cinemas, because the answer to the title of his song, will be shown during the end credits. And we were really surprised and thought that it was a witty and funny "punchline" as I may say it and very raw!

I know you'll also enjoy watching his music video.

PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO OF MCOY DURING HIS BLOGCON

"Bakit Kita Hahabulin" is now available for download and streaming on Apple Music, Spotify and digital stores worldwide.

On the other note, aside from Mcoy Fundales, altG Records another talents who is very promising and has a great potential not only here but also in the international music scene. She's no other than, Kyryll Ugdiman, only 17 years old, and hails from Ilo-ilo, thus, she's tagged as the "Millennial Chick ng Ilo-ilo."

Kyryll during her blogcon held last Friday, June 21, 2019

I've only seen and watched this teener from Ilo-ilo during her "The Clash" days, and being an alumna of the reality talent show, that means you've made a "mark" in the music scene. When I first sawKyryll, my first impression was she was a shy lass and that her towering height really did help her to be noticed at once.

The moment she belted out her first single, "Silent Rumblings" under altG Records, we couldn't help but to admire her singing style, she came out really strong and powerful. Yes, she's a soul singer but in a modern way. She sounded like an international singer if you would just listen to her song and pretend that you don't know her.

This girl was raised by his lolo, while her parents as working abroad; her mom was a singer in a band touring the Asian cities then and her father is a seaman. She's very grateful to her grandfather for he had taught her how to sing, play guitar and basketball (no wonder, she's so tall). And her signing-up with altG Records, is one of the her greatest achievements she said, after joining GMA Network's "The Clash," her music could be heard and reached international market.

I find Kyryll's voice so striking and powerful! Her own style and rendition of songs would really leave a special mark on every listener's meticulous ears. I can still remember her performance in "The Clash" when she sang "Say Something." She really did an awesome job there by giving the song a different rendition and twist. Plus she also has a wide vocal range, she can belt it out, she can do rap songs and soft soulful songs...

She said, "I am very honored to be releasing a single. Dati nangangarap lang ako na maging isang recording artist and now, it's finally here. Nagpapasalamat ako sa GMA Network, GMA Artist Center and altG Records for believing in me." She also shared that, "If there's one word to describe thesong, it would be soulful. I can't wait for all of you to hear this another wonderful music."

PLEASE WATCH KYRYLL'S VIDEO DURING HER BLOGCON

"Silent Rumblings" is composed by Bel Andres, and is now available for download and streaming on Apple Music, Spotify and digital stores worldwide.

Alden Richards is so natural playing local Superhero as "Victor Magtanggol"

Alden Richards as Victor Magtanggol

Last Firday, we were imvited by GMA Network to witness the pilot preview of Alden Richards latest project, "Victor Magtanggol" held at Cinema 76 in Anonas, Quezon City. Before the main screening of the Pilot Preview, we were fortunate enough to meet some of the cast of VM (Victor Magtanggol). Reese Tuazon, who plays Honeylyn, a family friend was there, then there's Chynna Ortaleza-Cipriano who plays Lynette, Victor's older sister and the very beautiful Janine Gutierrez, who plays Gwen, Victor's (Alden) love interest.

Victor Magtanggol's cast who graced the Pilot Preview, (L to R): Reese Tuazon, Chynna Ortaleza and Janine Gutierrez with host, GMA Artist Center's Nar Cabico

We were all very eager and excited to watch the pilot episode of VM in advanced and I just can't wait to let you all know my thoughts and ideas about it now that I've already watched it. At first, I really don't have expectations about the show, about the cast and with the lead actor, Alden. The initial part of the story started with a narration, which was for me, is imperative for us, the viewers to have a brief background of how it all started...

Then the main characters like Victor's whole family and friends came into the picture. It was also shown that Ms. Coney Reyes, who plays Victor's mom had left her family and went put of the country to seek greener pasteurs particularly in Canada. I would like to commend the screenplay writer because he/she clearly showed to us the importance of family. You see, with us, being Filipinos, we really have a close-knit family relationship, right?! Victor's love and closeness to his family has made him more passionate about his work as an all-around carpenter and that he's always ready to give a helping hand similar to a "Superhero" unmindful of his self and his safety. This selfless act of his, was brought about by his past and very mysterious background which will be unleashed as the story progresses.

What I also like about the story, it was purposedly made lighter and more bearable for the viewers most especially for the younger generation. I also admire its effects which, according to some sources were programmed by the gamers themselves. The fun and laughter is definitely present, and the excitement never stay, you are always looking forward to what will happen next.

Alden Richards

Above everything, I've seen Alden's growth as an actor. He was so natural here, he even does his own adlibs and antics which were all in perfect timing and valid. I love how he makes us feel comfortable watching him. His wonderful and handsome aura still spell magic to the viewers. He still possesses the charm and wit that everyone loved about him ever since.

With my bebe Janine after the VM pilot preview. Congrats!!!

For all the Kapuso viewers here's another story that we all love to watch with our family. Wholesome and very entertaining!

Please do catch it's pilot episode on July 30, Monday after "24 Oras," over GMA Network.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Expect no less than the best from GMA Network with the launch of the highly-anticipated and ground-breaking telefantasya, Victor Magtanggol.

Inspired by the Norse Mythology, the drama series features the country’s most respected and talented artists headlined by Kapuso prime actor Alden Richards who is all set to take on an extraordinary mission of protecting good from evil as Victor Magtanggol.

Making the series even grander are the actors in the mythological world: John Estrada as Loki, the god of deception who wants to get hold of the Mjolnir to use its power to create monstrous offsprings; Andrea Torres as Sif, the last wife of Thor and the golden-haired goddess of love and family who trains Victor how to control his powers and use the Mjolnir; Pancho Magno as Modi, Thor's son and the god of battle who will eventually be one of Victor’s greatest rivals; Miguel Faustman as Magni/Magnus, the other son of Thor who kept the Mjolnir and with the special participation of Conan Stevens as Thor, the god of thunder and owner of the powerful hammer, Mjolnir.

Joining the powerhouse ensemble are the important characters in Victor’s life: The Magtanggol Family of Victor with Al Tantay as Tomas Magtanggol, a loving father to Victor and his siblings; Chynna Ortaleza as Lynette Magtanggol-Domingo, the strict yet caring older sister of Victor; Dion Ignacio as Perci Domingo, the devoted and funny husband of Lynette; Lindsay De Vera as Anne Magtanggol, the kikay cosplayer and younger sister of Victor; Reese Tuazon as Honeylyn, Anne’s best friend; Yuan Francisco as Meloy Domingo, the sole child of Lynette and Perci and the first one to know the secret identity of his uncle Victor; and playing a very important role is Ms. Coney Reyes as Vivienne, the mother of Victor who got separated from him after a long time.

Playing equally vital roles are the members of the Regalado Family: Eric Quizon as Hector Regalado, the ambitious and hungry for power politician; Freddie Webb as Renato Regalado, the father of Hector; Maritoni Fernandez as Alice Regalado, the second wife of Hector; Kristoffer Martin as Lance Espiritu, the brooding and enigmatic stepson of Hector; and Janine Gutierrez as Gwen Regalado,  Hector’s daughter who becomes a field reporter covering news about Hammerman. Eventually, she falls in love with him.

Victor works as an OFW to look for his mother Vivienne (Coney Reyes).  He becomes friends with Magnus (Miguel Faustman), the curator of the museum where he works for. Magnus’ life will be jeopardized because of Loki (John Estrada). Victor will find out that Magnus is not a mortal being and he is the god Magni and one of Thor’s sons. Before Magnus dies, he will give Victor a magical compass that will lead Victor to a mysterious mountain. Victor will find an iron gauntlet that will allow him to use the Mjolnir, the powerful hammer of Thor (Conan Stevens).

Victor comes home to the Philippines and becomes Hammerman, the courageous superhero of his town. In his adventures, he battles monsters and form alliances with Norse gods in order to protect the people he loves from the schemes of Loki.
