Zanjoe Marudo will set a trend in comedy films via Bromance: My Bother's Romance

We've seen Zanjoe Marudo as a serious actor in films such as Star Cunema's Sa'Yo Lamang and his very remarkable performance in Star Cinema's official entry to MMFF 2012,  One More Try with co-actors Dingdong Dantes, Angelica Panganiban and Angel Locsin. Being a Star Magic talent, Zanjoe's versatility as an actor was even defined as he became more relaxed with comedy roles. His regular stint in  the gag show Banana Nite and Banana Split: Extra Scoop has even enhanced his capabilities as a comedy actor.

Today, all his efforts and anticipations will be paid-off, as Zanjoe Marudo will set another trend in Philippine comedy films in his own time via the movie Bromance: My Brother's Romance showing in all theaters this May 15,2013 nationwide! In this movie, Zanjoe plays a dual role, portraying Brando as the very masculine mechanic and Brandy, the girly (gay) and successful interior designer. Playing a gay role was not Zanjoe's first, actually, he had done this before in one of the romance anthologies in 24/7 In Love last November of last year under Star Cinema. He played a gay best friend of his "real love" partner, another gorgeous and award winning actress, Bea Alonzo.

Zanjoe was given another rare opportunity to portray again a gay role, but this time, in a full-length movie, Bromance: My Brother's Romance. He find his role very challenging in a different way, despite the fact that he had been doing comedy roles in Banana Nite and Banana Split: Extra Scoop in ABS-CBN. He said, "Kasi 'yung Banana Split, gag show 'yon, madalas, parang nagbibiruan lang kami doon. Pero dito sa movie, seryosong comedy ang ginawa ko."

During our set visit to the movie's one of location shoots in Manila, direk Wenn Deramas was quoted as saying "Zanjoe Marudo will be the Adam Sandler of the Philippines." And based from the movie's teasers, I couldn't agree more with you direk! I can still recall how direk Wenn believe and admire Zanjoe, he has only but good words and praises for his lead actor as well as Zanjoe's leading lady, Cristine Reyes who, according to direk Wenn was so professional, very patient and "real" person.

When the full script was offered to direk Wenn, the only actor that he had in mind that will perfectly fit the role was Zanjoe Marudo and the only actress for the role of Erika as Brandy's bestfriend and Brando's apple of the eye was Cristine Reyes. During the movie's presscon, Zanjoe admitted that he mimics his celebrity girlfriend, Bea Alonzo's "pouting lips." Zanjoe was asked if what would he think Bea  would say and react after watching his movie Bromance: My Brother's Romance, Z (Zanjoe) enthusiastically replied, "Bea will be proud of me!" Zanjoe is one hardwroking, humble and friendly actor who's so confident about his sexuality, that's why I really admire his versatility.

Bromance: My Brother's Romance is a different kind of comedy film for everyone, it depicts of a family relationship with differences and conflicts. It will also show how they will traverse through life and realize life's lessons and  will leave us thinking how we can relate at the same time be entertained by the funny scenarios and wacky characters in the story like Arlene Muhlach, Joy Viado, Nikki Valdez, Manuel Chua, Boom Labrusca, Joey Parras, Lassy, Maricar De Mesa, Abbie Bautista, Carlo Romero, Jeff Luna and Atak. After all the stressful events that us, Filipinos had experienced these past few weeks brought by the national elections, it's high time that we should go out with the whole family, friends, peers and loved ones. "The Reunion" : A story of friendship that we can relate to



Have you ever thought of going back to your past life, specifically your high school life and molded an idea of correcting your mistakes in order for you to move on with your present life? That same incident happened to the four youthful characters namely Boggs played by Enrique Gil; Joax for Xian Lim; Lloyd played by Enchong Dee and Pat portrayed by Kean Cipriano in Star Cinema's movie offering, the youth-oriented comedy film "The Reunion," directed by Frasco Santos Mortiz.

Direk Frasco is the son of veteran actor-director Edgar Mortiz and nephew of ABS-CBN president Charo Santos- Concio, he's been directing the kiddie tv program "Goin' Bulilit" for several years now and the gag show "Banana Split" for four years to date. As for the record, this will be his very first movie  directorial job and the same thing goes to "The Reunion" writer Ays de Guzman who admitted that he created this story based from the characters and experiences of his "real life" high school friends, who in return, upon learning of Ays' motive, only requested to be invited to the film's premiere night and wanted to have the chance to meet the whole cast, cute right? hihihi

The whole cast were very proud in claiming that this movie is a sort of their tribute to the famed local rock band "Eraserheads" or E-Heads as they've managed to correlate every selected song of E-Heads to their scenes (that's a huge challenge for them huh!). Kudos to everybody who had taken great effort in the success of this film.

Aside from the four young heartthrobs, they were also joined by equally young and beautiful actresses like Jessy Mendiola, one of "Walang Hanggan" teleserye stars Julia Montes, "Kung Akoy's Iiwan Mo" lead star Bangs Garcia and Megan Young with the special participation of the cosplay princess Alodia Gosiengfiao and the alluring Cristine Reyes. Matt Evans added fun in the story where he played Jay as their "gay" friend, and I commend him for his believable portrayal. :))

I still remember direk Frasco saying during the movie's blogcon (bloggers' conference), "Sana mag-enjoy lang kayo kasi po kami nag-enjoy kami nung ginawa namin 'yung pelikula, masaya lang po s'ya... breather s'ya dun sa lahat ng mga problema natin, 'yung mga nararanasan natin nitong mga nakaraang linggo... manood lang po tayo ng "The Reunion" para magkaroon naman ng ngiti sa ating mga mukha, enjoyin' n'yo po 'yung pelikula."

The positive outcome and effect of the movie to the movie going public has only proven one thing... amidst the opening of various hollywood films like "Expendables 2" among others, "The Reunion" still surfaces and we can say this is proudly Pinoy made and direk Frasco was definitely right when he said that this movie will put a smile on our face. We did not only enjoy the whole movie, we also left the theater with hope and we were very much inspired to really appreciate our friends and the people we love. This is indeed a story of friendship that we can relate to.

"Dahil sa Pag-ibig" : All for the Glory of Love





Witness the most-awaited Primetime Bida teleserye "Dahil sa Pag-ibig," as it premieres tonight, March 12, Monday on Kapamilya network, ABS-CBN.

"Dahil sa Pag-ibig" is a story of love, sacrifices, priorities, hopes, compassion, faith, prejudice, revelations, selfishness and unselfishness. It depicts life's struggles and mishandling through thick and thin, ups and downs, and realization. This is a unique story of how fate played with the characters' lives and eventually twisted its own paths. There are choices and options in our lives that we have to consider and give up all for the glory of love. The question is...how much are you willing to give up?

Ang dating titulo nito ay “Padre de Pamilya,” na napalitan nga ng “Nang Dahil sa Pag-ibig.” Ang iba pang mga maningning na artista na gaganap sa inaabangang teleserye na ito ay sina Christopher de Leon, Sandy Andolong, Denise Laurel, Rafael Rosell, Tetchie Agbayani, Rey “PJ” Abellana, Malou Crisologo, Jeffrey Santos at Edward Mendez sa pagdidirihe ni Jerry Lopez Sineneng.
