Philippine Cinema's Iconic actors, Eddie Garcia and Gina Pareño together in "Hintayan ng Langit" movie

Philippine Cinema's Legendary Icons, Ms. Gina Pareño and Mr. Eddie Garcia during "Hintayan ng Langit" mediacon

In this present age, we hardly see or watch legendary cinema icon like Mr. Eddie Garcia and Ms. Gina Pareño star in a film project that caters and focuses on them specifically. Boy, I feel so privileged to have an interview with them up close and personal. When we asked Mr. Eddie Garcia if this would be their first time together in a film project, would you believe he said, their roles were as father and daughter. And now, in "Hintayan ng Langit," they were partners/ lovers. So ironic right?!

Juan Miguel Severro, had thought of a different kind of story for them to portray. The plot is what's life after death? Or what's in it for someone who passed away, can they still fulfill their lost promises or agendas? And how important it is to still have a blissful moment after death? This is a timeless story of love and life, of hoping and never giving up on someone.

Life is full of what ifs... if living today means being in control of everything including what we are supppsed to do or not to do, then, we should waste not! We should never give up on love if loving someone will give full meaning to your life provided that we are not getting too risky and reach the point that we are stepping on another's shoe. Life could be really that amazing if we all need to live justly, unselfishly, with full respect, love and honor.

This is one unforgettable film that will definitely poke your hearts.

Juan Miguel Severo’s first feature film confronts timeless, bittersweet truths on loving and living.

Is leaving a mark on this world what really matters most in life?

In Hintayan ng Langit, Lisang has overstayed in her waiting room in purgatory, occasionally causing other souls trouble for her own entertainment. But today her waiting ends. Finally, she is set to cross over and her room is to be leased to a new tenant, Manolo, who turns out to be her newly-deceased ex-boyfriend. But life—or death—takes a heartbreaking turn as Lisang and Manolo get a second chance to get to know each other again and, in the process, begin to realize what it really means to be “alive” again. As Lisa and Manolo look back in retrospect and they examine the decisions they made in their lives, they can’t help but ask what if....

The feature film stars multi-awarded veteran actors Gina Pareño and Eddie Garcia and is written by spoken word artist Juan Miguel Severo based from his one-act stage play for The Virgin Lab Fest.

"Bwakaw:" Braving the "Hidden Truth" and Life's Reality

Watching “BWAKAW” is like threading the in depth meaning of life and finally realizing the "hidden truth" that's probably slapping your face since the day you can't even remember. At first I did not know what to expect as I was anticipating that the title referred to someone in the movie, maybe the lead star himself, as in this case portrayed by one of the country’s legendary actor, Mr. Eddie Garcia.

As an official entry to this year’s Cinemalaya, I find it interesting that it was going mainstream so this movie must have something special, I guess. :)) It was highly regarded in the filmfest, garnering Best Actor for Mr. Garcia.

Set in a rural countryside situation, this is a story about a grumpy old man known as Rene, who lives alone and is already awaiting and preparing for his death. For Godsake, he even bought a coffin already hehe.. He only has “bwakaw,"  a dog (Princess) as his companion and later turned best friend, which incidentally is also the title- roler in GMA Telebabad's fantasy-drama, "Aso ni San Roque." Life has no meaning for Rene, until certain twist and turn change his view.

After Bwakaw fell ill with a damning sickness, he came to realize that something in life is worth living for. He found true friendship with his dog. He even fell in love at an advance age and gave in to his true “innerself”. You just have to really watch out for those scenes, I tell you ;)

And most of all, this story has no miraculous ending thus it is a close resemblance to what actual life is here. Anybody can relate to some scenes that is happening in the story. A touching movie yet is also funny because of the comedy antics of some of its characters. Simple but true. Laughing yet teary eyed. These are some of the words best describe “Bwakaw”.

Also with the cast  are some distinguished actors and actresses, namely Rez Cortez, Beverly Salviejo, Soxie Topacio, Gardo Versoza, Allan Paule, Luz Valdez, Bibeth Orteza, Joey Paras, Soliman Cruz, and Miss Armida Siguion- Reyna. The film is directed by Jun Robles Lana and has dedicated his latest "masterpiece" to the late playwright and children's book author, Rene O. Villanueva, his mentor.

Rated A by the Cinema Evaluation Board and distributed by Star Cinema, this is a film that you may not want to miss. Catch it! Still showing in various theaters nationwide!
